A good lunch is necessary for students at school. However, in this country, some families find it hard to afford their kids’ lunches at school.
For that reason, a charity group (慈善组织) called Eat Up gives out free lunches to schools in poor areas. A set of free lunch includes a cheese sandwich and a cup of milk. It can offer enough energy to students and help them work better in class.
“It’s good that students come to school feeling safe. They don’t have to worry about where their next meal is coming from,” said Mr. Riley, a teacher from a school which gets free lunches. “And we know if they are well fed, they are going to have the energy levels to get through the school day and maximize (最大化) their learning.”
So far, over 3 million sandwiches have been given out in more than 720 schools around the country every week. Thousands of poor students benefit from them.
