The Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival falls in the 15th of the 8th month of our Chinese lunar calendar. As one of the traditional Chinese festival, it has been enjoying great popularity in our country. Usual, no matter what far away or how busy we are, we will try to go to home for the celebration. The moon that night looked the brightest in the whole lunar month. That we love most is the time we appreciate the full moon together. With the beautiful moon up in the sky, we sit together and eat mooncakes and fruit, share our stories. In addition to these traditional activities, we have wide range of choices such as travel and visiting our relatives or friends.
Dear Mike,
I’ve learned of your letter that you want to know about the Double Seventh Festival. Now I’m writing to tell you about it.
The Double Seventh Festival, also know as the Qiqiao Festival, is the most romantic traditional Chinese festival. It falls annual on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month. The festival came from a ancient Chinese romantic fairy tale about the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, who has deeply moved generation of Chinese people. Many men and women in the love usually pray for a happy marriage on that night, hoping for a happy ending to his true love. Today, many young couples in China celebrate the Double Seventh Festival in Chinese Valentine’s Day.
I hope my explanation can make you understood our traditional festivals and cultures better.
Yours,
Li Hua
Dear John,
In your letter, you asked me about traditionally Chinese festivals. Now I would like to tell you something about the most important festival in China- the Spring Festival.
Few days before the festival, houses are cleaned and red couplets are stick. We put on our fancy clothes and setted off firecrackers during the festival. Beside, presents and big dinners are prepared for to celebrate the happy reunion of family and relative. They have dumplings and enjoy the Spring Festival Gala on Lunar New Year’s Eve. Customs may vary from place to place, and the same happy atmosphere is to be found anywhere in the country.
Now, I hope you have some idea of our Spring Festival.
Yours,
Li Hua
It is interested to visit another country, but sometimes there are some questions when we don’t know the language very well. It may be difficult to talk about the people there. We may not know how to use the telephone in the country which are visiting. We may not know what to buy the things we need. In a strange country we may not know where to eat and what to order in a restaurant. It is not easy to decide how many money to tip (付小费) waiters or taxi drivers. When we are helpful,we may not know how to ask help. After a short time later, however, we learn what to do and what to say. We learn to enjoy life in another country, and then we may be sorry to leave both the place and the people.

I like the Spring Festival, during that I usually enjoy myself greatly. All the family member often get together to have a big dinner. We also visit our relatives or friends. To my great joy, my grandparents always gave me some lucky money. Last year, I spent the Spring Festival happily as usual, but one thing made me surprising. My grandparents didn’t give me lucky money at first! It seemed that they had forgotten about them. Seeing I was puzzled, my grandpa laughed at. Several minutes late, my mobile phone received message. It was my grandpa who sent lucky money to me secret through WeChat! How cool and humorous my grandpa was!
It is well known that one of the aims of UNESCO is to protect and preserve culture and natural heritage. Our heritage is the precious gift, and it is also that we live with today. These heritage site impress visitors with their amazed beauty, and they are a great source of inspiration. There are altogether more than over 900 World Heritage Sites. People have come to understanding the truth that they do not belong to any single person, and to all mankind.
Several days ago when I went shopping in New York I saw an old woman crossed the street with a heavy bag in her hand. At that moment, the American boy was standing nearby. I thought the boy will help the old lady, and to my surprise,he did nothing. This seemed very strangely to me.
Later my roommate explained the boy's behaviors to me. Americans place emphasis to independence. If the boy had offered to help her,the old woman would have felt that she had considered old and weak. What the boy did it allowed her to keep her independence, that was more important to her than the discomfort of carrying a heavy load.
My name is Ann. I've been in China in a few years. With the help of Li Hua, a good friend of mine,I've been used to live in China. Li Hua, like other girls, are beautiful and lovely. We became friends after we meet each other a few years ago. Although her English isn't easy to understand, but we enjoy chatting and we usually talk a lot about my favorite books. We're both surprising that Chinese culture and American culture are such different. Now we are planning nice party. There, I will introduce Li Hua to my friends, whom also have great interest in Chinese culture.
