文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了即将打破世界记录的最年轻的环球飞行的女飞行员的事迹。

Zara Rutherford, who is just 19 years old, is flying around the world by herself in a small plane. When she finishes her trip, which will take over two months, she’ll become the youngest woman to fly all the way around the globe by herself.

Ms Rutherford, who’s British-Belgian, began her trip in Belgium on August 18. She plans to fly across five continents, through 52 countries before returning to Belgium in November.

Shaesta Waiz, the current record holder, was 30 years old when she flew around the world. She says she’s happy Ms Rutherford is trying to break her record.

Ms Rutherford’s parents are both pilots, and they helped her practice. She’s been learning to fly planes since she was 14 years old. She got her pilot’s license in 2020 and has hundreds of hours of flying practice.

She’s making this trip in a small two-seater plane called a microlight. One of the seats has been replaced with an extra gas tank, which will allow Ms Rutherford to cover longer distances. The plane has had several other updates for safety, including a second radio, and satellite communications that let her talk to people whenever she needs to.

To follow her route, Ms Rutherford needs to be able to see, since her plane can’t be guided using its instruments alone. That means she can’t fly at night or in bad weather. To avoid clouds, she has to fly close to the land or ocean, which can be dangerous.

Because of the danger, Ms Rutherford worked hard to prepare for emergencies. She has even been trained in escaping from a plane landing in the ocean.

She plans to stay a night or two in each place to visit with schools and youth groups. She advises young girls to explore areas like aviation, science, mathematics, and engineering. As her father points out, currently, only about 5% of pilots are women.

“It’s an easy thing to say, but just go for it,” Ms Rutherford says. “If you don’t try and see how high you can fly, then you’ll never know.”

4. What do we learn about Zara Rutherford?
A.She will fly with her parents.B.She will stay in 52 countries.
C.She knows Shaesta Waiz well.D.She is well prepared for the trip.
5. What makes Zara Rutherford’s trip very dangerous?
A.Flying during the day.B.Flying at a lower altitude.
C.The plane's small body.D.Lacking updates for safety.
6. What message does Zara Rutherford try to convey to young girls?
A.Choosing what you love.B.Treasuring what you have.
C.Challenging difficult things.D.Struggling for better grades.
7. Which of the following can best describe Zara Rutherford?
A.Lovely and intelligent.B.Ambitious and inspiring.
C.Hardworking and modest.D.Generous and kindhearted.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了一个由音乐家和科学家组成的团队使用人工智能来完成贝多芬最后的杰作。文章介绍了这一做法的目的以及具体的操作过程和人们对此的看法。

Beethoven is one of the greatest musicians. He completed 722 musical works including 9 symphonies. Unfortunately, the musician died while still working on his 10th Symphony. Now, a team of musicians and scientists have used artificial intelligence (AI) to complete the artist’s final masterpiece.

Dr. Matthias Roder first came up with the idea to complete the composition. The director of the Karajan Institute in Austria thought it was an appropriate way to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday. He began by enlisting an international team of experts in music, including music composer Walter Werzowa and Dr Ahmed Elgammal, the creator of an innovative AI technology for the art market.

Elgammal and his colleagues started the process by familiarizing the AI software with a broad range of classical music and then narrowing it down to just Beethoven’s work. Meanwhile, Werzowa and his group tried to decipher the rough sketches and the handful of notes that detailed Beethoven’s plans for the10th Symphony.

The team then fed the AI software musical notes from the unfinished composition. Since music is very structured and mathematical, AI can predict the next note accurately. However, it starts to deviate from the central theme after a few notes. To stay true to Beethoven’s original composition, Elgammal’s team sent Werzowa hundreds of AI-generated musical note variations every evening. Werzowa would listen to them and then select the one that he thought was closest to what the artist would have written. The AI team would add the music and rerun the software to generate the next suggestions. And piece by piece, the team was able to complete the 10th Symphony!

The composition delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic debuted in Beethoven’s birthplace of Bonn, Germany, on October 9, 2021. Not surprisingly, the AI-generated masterpiece is causing some controversy. Critics believe technology shouldn’t be used to replicate the human creative process. Elgammal and his team agree with their stance and say their AI software isn’t out to replace humans — it’s just a tool to help artists express themselves in new ways.

8. Why did Matthias Roder decide to complete Beethoven’s final composition?
A.To make Beethoven more famous.
B.To help realize Beethoven’s dream.
C.To get a better understanding of Beethoven’s work.
D.To mark the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth.
9. What did the team members do first as to the AI software?
A.They listened to hundreds of AI-generated musical notes.
B.They familiarized the AI software with Beethoven’s work.
C.They introduced the AI software to various kinds of classical music.
D.They fed the Al software musical notes from the unfinished symphony.
10. What does the underlined word “replicate” probably mean in the last paragraph?
A.Perfect.B.Copy.C.StudyD.Destroy.
11. What’s the best title for the passage?
A.AI put extra notes to Beethoven’s 10th Symphony
B.AI technology was created for the art market
C.AI helped complete Beethoven’s unfinished symphony
D.AI enabled artists to express themselves in new ways

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了抖音上流行发布“每天吃什么”视频,作者指出其中包含的危害以及建议。

TikTok has appeared as a major starter of food trends — from mushroom coffee and pancake cereal to cloud bread. But there’s another trend dominating TikTok that’s become bigger than any of these viral recipes. That’s the #whatieatinaday trend, which is nearing 9 billion views. These video food diaries are also popular on Instagram — typically featuring a wellness influencer or celebrity showing their foods they ate that day — often with a full-length yoga clothes mirror selfie.

The basic message these posts send is that if you eat like them, then you can eventually look like them. The posts are promoting the idea of a perfect or ideal day of eating, along with a perfect body size.

“Younger audience, especially girls and young women, accept the message that they must eat like these creators in order to achieve and maintain not only health, but also social attraction,” says Cara Harbstreet. “The biggest harm I see with this trend is that it normalizes disordered or restrictive eating behaviors. This could prevent someone struggling with an eating disorder from seeking and receiving support or treatment.”

Even if the #whatieatinaday posts are displaying a balanced day of eating, the message of “eat like me, and you will look like me" is harmful because people would not necessarily achieve the same body size as the Instagrammer even if they copied their day of eating bite for bite.

Rather than a day’s worth of food, many experts suggest posting a single meal instead. Rachael Hartley said an individual meal or recipe could serve as an idea or inspiration versus a full day of eating to copy.

“I occasionally share #whyIateWednesday posts, with the aim of showing a wide range of foods, including fast food, desserts, convenience foods and other foods that diet culture might dislike, as well as showing how to include nutrition in a gentle way,” she said.

Rumsey says diet culture has changed our sense of how much is “normal” to eat at meals or snacks, so it can be helpful to see a full meal that shows a variety of foods.

12. What does the author try to explain in Paragraph 1?
A.What trend is popular in social networking sites.B.What role TikTok plays in food diaries.
C.What foods are posted on Instagram.D.What wellness influencers show on TikTok.
13. Why does Cara consider the #whatieatinaday harmful?
A.Because it asks people to eat the same food.
B.Because it makes disordered eating behaviors normal.
C.Because it prevents people from achieving the same body size.
D.Because it doesn’t promote a perfect day of eating.
14. What do eating experts suggest posting?
A.Diet culture.B.A week’s worth of food.
C.One meal at a time.D.A day’s worth of food.
15. What is the author’s purpose of writing this passage?
A.To recommend some famous eating posts.
B.To teach how to share food on TikTok.
C.To explore the causes of disordered eating behaviors.
D.To explain the dangers of video food diaries, such as from the #whatieatinaday.
