For many people, working from home, or ‘WFH’, has also come to mean ‘WFB’-working from bed. Getting dressed and going to an office has been replaced by splashing water on your face and switching on a computer as you settle back under your blanket. People may have a desk or a kitchen table to place their computer on-they just choose not to.
But the reality is that turning your bed into your office can set off a large number of health problems, both psychological and physical. And even if you don't notice them now, adverse effects-possibly permanent-could appear later on in life. Young people are particularly likely to fall victim to these bad habits, because they may not feel the consequences right away, which could include simple headaches, and could also extend to permanent stiffness in your back, and severe pain in the bones.
When you work from bed for a year, it doesn't just potentially ruin your body. It's possibly bad for your productivity and sleep habits, too. Rachel Salas, a sleep expert at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, explained that “the more you watch TV in bed, play video games in bed and not sleep in bed, your brain starts learning,' oh, OK, we can do any one of these activities in bed'. It starts building connections.”
So, when you spread out on your bed your laptop, phone and all the screens your job requires every day, your brain and body eventually stop associating bed with rest. “You're really training your brain to be alert, and telling it this is where your ideas come and this is where the work is done,” adds Salas. “When you're trying to go to sleep, your brain is like-'wait a minute, what are we doing? This is work time'.” Doing this for a year, or any extended period of time, could lead to circadian rhythm disorder (昼夜节律紊乱). And disturbed nights, body pain or both mean that you're less likely to be productive, creative or focused, making it likely your work could suffer.
4. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “adverse" in paragraph 2?A.Beneficial. |

Seagrass meadows(海草床)are wonder plants growing beneath the sea. They feed and shelter sea life and are masterful at storing carbon.
Seagrass has usually been detected by Earth-orbiting satellites that identify darker patches in the blue water. In this study, tiger sharks were selected as research tools due to their highly consistent associations with seagrass ecosystems. They spend 70% of their time in seagrass meadows. The team equipped eight tiger sharks with satellite tags and used a 360-degree camera on them for the first time ever.
The data researchers collected was astonishing. The world’s largest seagrass ecosystem, measuring at least 66,900 square kilometers, has been discovered. This reflects a 41% increase from previous estimates of global seagrass. Seagrass can capture(捕获)huge quantities of carbon by photosynthesis and stores it on the seafloor. In terms of climate change, this is excellent news; seagrass is 35 times faster at removing carbon than tropical rainforests. When referred to global seagrass carbon stock estimates, the study indicates that seagrass in the Bahamas may contain 19.2% to 26.3% of all the carbon stored in seagrass meadows on Earth.
Yet seagrass meadows are rapidly disappearing, with over 92% of meadows in the UK gone, according to the World Wildlife Fund. Scientists are collecting seeds and trying to grow new seagrass meadows through restoration projects.
The sharks led us to the seagrass ecosystem in the Bahamas, which we now know is likely the most significant blue carbon sink on the planet. What this discovery shows us is that ocean exploration and research are essential for a healthy future. The untapped potential of the ocean is limitless, offering hope for climate change around the globe.
8. Why were tiger sharks chosen as research tools?A.hey are more flexible than other sea animals. |
B.They can quickly adjust themselves to the deep sea. |
C.They can be easily equipped with experimental devices. |
D.They have a strong connection with seagrass-ecosystems. |
A.The decline of global seagrass meadows. |

ADHD (多动症) affects behavior, and people with it can appear restless and have trouble concentrating, EndeavorRx is a game-changing ADHD treatment. It is a video game created for kids with ADHD, with the goal of decreasing their difficulties with paying attention. And it is now approved by the FDA.
Much like a classic video game, in this one, the player must collect items, avoid obstacles and level up through increasing difficulty. Since this video game was made for ADHD kids, the tasks teach players to concentrate effectively and switch between tasks, which is typically challenging for people with ADHD. Because it always requires them to be focused. This treatment option is available with a prescription (处方) and works well combined with other therapies (疗法) the child might be receiving. Parents can even track their child’s progress via a companion app.
The game is actually backed by years of research and clinical studies that show a significant improvement when kids played the EndeavorRx video game. EndeavorRx has studied over 600 children with ADHD. Motherly, an online platform for mothers, writes about the positive results that parents reported after using the video game to treat their child’s ADHD.
One of the interesting things about this video game is that it ends once it has been played for a relatively short time, which is not the case with most video games. Setting parameters (参数) and limits on the game’s usage in advance is beneficial for the users with ADHD. Perhaps the video game as a treatment will catch on for other conditions. For now, it’s great to hear that ADHD-ers get to have some well-deserved fun.
12. In which aspect do kids benefit from EndeavorRx?A.Building confidence. | B.Developing social skills. |

It seems very likely you fought like cat and dog when you were younger.
Having brothers and sisters makes you more charitable.
Siblings can help you have a healthier lifestyle. A multinational survey of more than 15,000 people found that 43 percent of people credited their family and friends for having the biggest impact on their health.
They help you live longer. In a study from the American Sociological Association, older adults who described themselves as being “extremely close” to the family members they listed as their closest confidents had a six percent chance of dying over the next five years, compared to a 14 percent risk for the people who reported not being very close to the family members listed.

I was on a family vacation and our hotel was right beside the sea. I was reading my book by the beach one afternoon when I heard some noise nearby. Curiously, I put aside the book and joined the group of people near the edge of the sea.
I was struck by what I saw. There was a giant turtle (海龟) which was upside down! Four of its huge feet were waving crazily in the air, and its long wrinkled neck was stretching far out of its shell. A thick rope was tied around the turtle and the fisherman held onto the end of it.
Obviously, the turtle was trying to escape. Some standers-by were clicking their cameras enthusiastically, filming the exciting moment. The crowd was thrilled by the scene before them. One strongly-built man found a piece of wood on the sand, carried it towards the turtle and started pushing the turtle’s head with it. When the end of the wood touched the turtle’s head, the turtle took it into its mouth and chewed it up in an instant.
“Wow!” the crowd shouted. “Did you see that? I’m glad it wasn’t my arm!” a person from the crowd exclaimed. “Wait till it gets sold and becomes turtle meat!” another joked and the crowd laughed.
Suddenly, I heard a boy’s screaming, “Cease torturing (折磨) it! Get away from the turtle!” We all turned and saw a boy and his father running toward where we were. “All of you are cruel for just standing there and doing nothing to save the turtle! Would you like it if you were forcefully taken away from your homes to be sold and tortured? Animals deserve to be treated with kindness too!” the boy shouted at the group of adults standing on the beach. I sensed a slight change of mood in the crowd-a mixture of unease and anger.
