Jose Luis Garcia is from Argentina. He lives in a small village in San Luis but works in Buenos Aires, about 800 kilometers away.
“I grew up in my village and I love it here but the good jobs are in Buenos Aires,” he says. “I have to travel over 10 hours on the bus on Friday and Sunday nights but it’s OK. I don’t want to live in Buenos Aires. It’s an exciting place but it’s dangerous and quite polluted (被污染的). The village I live in is near the mountains. It’s safe and quiet—a great place for my wife and four kids.”
There are more and more people like Jose all over the world. They live and work in different places.
Lawrence Wood is one of them. He is a dentist (牙医) working in London. He and his family once lived in London, but last year they moved to Paceville, Malta. He flies to London on Monday mornings and flies back to Paceville on Thursday evenings to spend time with his wife and two young children.
“Our house in Paceville is next to the sea, and it’s bigger than the house where we lived in London,” says Lawrence. “We have a beautiful view of the Mediterranean now. Also, the house is five minutes from my children’s school and four kilometers from the airport. It’s very convenient. The flying’s OK. It’s three or four hours but I only do it twice a week.”
