文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者在30多岁的时候对几乎所有的事情都说“是”,后来因为种种原因,作者开始学着说“不”,这让作者感到放松。

I spent all of my 30 s saying yes. Saying yes to things I wanted to do, but a lot of the time saying yes to things I didn’t like. This was a people-pleasing skill. I thought it would speed people’s opinion of me: the woman who could do it all.

At the time, I thought I was doing it perfectly. I was making new friends and developing new interests. I joined the board (委员会) of my children’s school and packed my days with around 20 other activities to do. And then several events changed everything: pandemic restrictions (疫情限制), serious medical problems and losing my job. All these helped me see how tired out I was.

All at once, I realized how good it felt not to be busy every second of every day. For the first time, I could carefully choose how I spent my days. Having to say no turned into the beauty of choosing to say no. Looking back, the pressure to say yes and smile was my choice. I felt it my duty to say yes, from driving people to the airport to exchanging a carpool (拼车) day, from attending charity (慈善) events to seeing family every Friday night. I always wanted to solve everyone’s problems and offered good solutions. I was everyone’s cheerleader, but forgot how to cheer for myself along the way.

But saying no is being my own cheerleader. And it’s not saying no to caring for family and friends, or helping someone out when they’re in trouble. Instead, it’s a small change in mindset (思维模式), taking a pause before agreeing. I take a breath, and check my energy and ability before jumping in.

Most importantly, I tell my kids there’s nothing wrong with saying no. To help others is important but to save yourself is important, too.

4. Why did the author say yes to almost everything in her 30s?
A.To make more friends.B.To please and impress others.
C.To meet the needs of others.D.To improve her problem-solving skills.
5. Which of the following is NOT the cause of the author’s change?
A.Job loss.B.Health problems.C.Charity events.D.Pandemic restrictions.
6. How did the author feel after choosing to say no?
A.Annoyed.B.Light-hearted.C.Confused.D.Shocked.
7. Which can be the best title of this passage?
A.Learning to say no.B.Being busy leads to failure.
C.Being helpful brings more friends.D.Saying yes is a sign of weakness.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了啤酒和鸡蛋在厨房里很常见。然而,科学家最近发现它们也被用于历史绘画中。

Beer and eggs are commonly seen in the kitchen. However, scientists recently found that they were used in historic paintings, too.

To protect Danish paintings, a group of researchers studied what ancient paint was made of. They did experiments on small pieces of paintings that had already been cut off from the ancient artwork. According to their paper published in Science Advances, grains (谷物) and yeast (酵母) were found on the base of the paintings. Beer was the most common drink in the 19th century in Denmark, and its by-products were grains and yeast.

The study showed that they were used to provide a stable painting surface. Researchers also pointed out that beer by-product was used as a “glue” because it had a lot of sugar. With beer added, the paint can also dry faster.

Apart from beer, egg has long been found in oil-based paints used by artists in the 15th century, such as Italian painter Leonardo da Vinci. A recent study published in Nature Communications may have “cracked” the secret of how eggs can help protect artworks.

The researchers re-created the ancient paint by adding egg yolks (蛋黄) to oil paint. They then looked into how it changed over time. The findings showed that the yolk’s proteins (蛋白质) helped slow the oxidation (氧化) of the paint. It could also reduce wrinkling (皱褶) as the egg makes the paint more smooth.

However, the oil paint with added egg usually takes longer to dry. It seemed fine for artists—they were willing to accept to have their work kept for longer.

The more we understand how artists choose and use their materials, the more we can “appreciate what they’re doing”, Ken Sutherland, an expert at the Art Institute of Chicago, US, told Science News. Sutherland added that research like this could help people have a deeper understanding of the artworks.

8. Why was beer used in historic Danish paintings?
A.To keep the paintings clean.B.To help the paintings dry faster.
C.To make the paintings more colorful.D.To give the painting a different feel.
9. What does the underlined word “cracked” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Kept.B.Shared.C.Discovered.D.Explored.
10. How could egg yolk proteins change the paint?
A.The paint could age faster.B.The paint could feel smoother.
C.The paint could dry more quickly.D.The paint’s colors could be more vivid.
11. The author quotes Sutherland’s words in the last paragraph to stress _________.
A.the right methods to appreciate artworks
B.the requirements for researching early artworks
C.the need of helping people understand artworks
D.the importance of understanding the minds of artists

文章大意:本文是一篇新闻报道。文章主要介绍了一种近年来在中国大学生中兴起的一种新型旅游方式——特种兵旅游。

Recently, a new kind of tourism has sprung (出现) up in China. Called “special forces (特种兵) style tourism”, this new kind of tourism is mainly about visiting many places of interest in a short period, most often on weekends. Most of these visitors are college students.

Yu Yinghua, a college student in Shanghai, is one of them. The 22-year-old started the “special forces style tourism” in March after she was attracted by such experiences of some travel bloggers. “After staying a long time at school, I’m hungry to take trips in my spare time,” said Yu, “Now it’s time! Spring has come and we can go out to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery.”

Most of her trips were inspired by understanding from her daily life, such as a place mentioned in a chat with friends. “But making a plan spot in the city, she was able to find a lot of information and learn more about these sites. That would help her save time when traveling on-site and enjoy the sites better.”

Unlike Yu who traveled in nearby cities, Chen Junjun, a doctoral student in Shanghai likes to travel far to get rid of academic stress. In April, the 24-year-old took a two-day trip to Xi’an, Shaanxi province. During her trip, she visited all the scenic sites in the city. “With many academic responsibilities, such a trip can bring color to my life.” said Chen.

Even so, the 24-year-old added that such tourism is not suitable for everyone. Chen said that it’s labor-consuming (耗费体力的) as visitors have to visit as many sites as possible in a short period. To some degree such trips are not as flexible (灵活的) as days-long trips in which you can change your plan as you like. “Thus, a great deal of energy and a calm mind are needed for this kind of tourism,” said Chen.
