Apply for a Library Card
Any person who lives, works or attends school in New York State is qualified to receive a New York Public Library card free of charge.
Adult and teen users may either apply online or in person at any New York Public Library location. Applications for children aged 11 and under must be completed in person, and require the signature of a parent or guardian.
When you apply for a card online, you will receive a 7-digit temporary barcode(条形码). This allows you to set a PIN(Personal Identification Number).
After you receive your permanent barcode, which is required to borrow materials, search library databases, or reserve a computer, you must validate your card.
Renew or Validate Your Card
All adult, teen and child library cards for cardholders in New York City and areas of New York State outside of New York City expire(期满) and must be renewed every three years. New library card applicants who applied for a card online must validate their card before full cardholder privileges can be extended.
Cardholders in New York City must visit any New York Public Library location to present the required forms of identification in order to renew or validate their card.
Cardholders from areas of New York State outside of New York City may email scans or copies of the required forms of identification to patronaccounts@nypl.org.
Forgot Your PIN?
If you provide the library with a valid email address, you can click on the Forgot Your PIN? Link on the login(登录) screen of either Bibliocommons or the Classic Catalog. A link with instructions on changing your PIN will be sent to the email address on your account, giving you a brief period of time to update your information. You must select a 4-digit numeric PIN, with no repeating or obvious characters(e.g.1234 or 2222).
If you have not provided us with a valid email address, you have to visit a library location with valid identification to have a staff member reset your PIN for you.

Next year the U.S. National Park Service will turn 100. The 100th anniversary (周年纪念日)will be celebrated across the nation.
Sally Jewell, Secretary of the Interior of the United States, started a new program called “Find Your Park.” She said being outside helps both children and adults in today’s computer-driven world.
“In this society, where we’ve got much information at out fingertips, and things to distract(分散……注意力)our brains, there is little to distract our bodies and that’s why parks and open spaces are so important and even more important with each passing year,” Jewell said.
From beautiful lands and mountains to historical and cultural places, national parks can be found in all 50 states across the U.S. The parks had nearly 293 million visits in 2014. The Golden Gate Park in San Francisco was the most popular with 15 million visits. There are 28 different kinds of national park, and each park has an important story to tell.
Jewell has invited some famous Americans to help the anniversary. American First Lady Michelle Obama and former First Lady Laura Bush were invited to share their national park stories, because the White House is one of the country’s national parks.
Mrs. Obama encouraged “people across the country to ‘Find Your Park,’ whether it’s in your backyard, or your hometown, or in one of our beautiful national parks.”
Some well-known Americans have filmed their own personal national park stories and they can be seen on National Park Foundation website. Bill Nye, known as “The Science Guy,” and actress Bella Thorne are two of the people who have shared their personal national park stories.
The program wants the public to share park experiences and memories at FindYourPark.com. The website helps people find a park near their home, not just national parks, but local parks as well.
“It’s really all about getting people outside and moving as well as getting them to recognize(认识)what parks and public lands have to offer,” Jewell said.
4. What’s the purpose of the program “Find Your Park”?
A.To get more people to connect with public lands.
B.To make sure people live in a healthy outdoor life.
C.To raise money for the 100th anniversary.
D.To keep children and adults away from computers
5. In Jewell’s opinion, parks and open spaces ______.
A.are good for helping brains to get information
B.have a big influence on people’s lives
C.are hard to attract human beings
D.help keep people’s attention
6. The national parks in the U.S. _____.
A.are the nation’s main tourist attraction
B.have one story teller for each park
C.are popular across the nation
D.cover a few of its states
7. Famous people are helping the anniversary by ____.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章通过作者和母亲到一个叫Navajo的村子的人手里买毯子的故事,告诉读者,事事并非要满为赢,很多时候满意味着结束,不意味着完美。

That woman carried a new blanket (毛毯) over her arm. Wordlessly, she gave it to me.

“Is it finished?” I asked.

She shook her head. “No. It is ready,” she replied. I handed her the money and took the blanket.

“It is beautiful, so skillfully woven (编织),” I said to my mother. “But what did she mean when she said it was not finished? How can it be ready if it is not finished?”

“I will tell you later,” my mother said, “but first I will take you to the Navajo (纳瓦霍) village.”

We went down to the village. A group of young men were making sand pictures. We walked through the whole village, watching the different things the people were doing.

It was not until that evening that my mother finally explained the Navajo woman’s words.

“Did you notice anything about the things the people were making?” my mother asked.

“What should I have noticed?” I looked at her and asked.

“Each thing the Navajo make has one small part that is not complete. The designs in their sand pictures are often not perfectly done, for example — the line of a circle may not quite close. If you look carefully at your blanket, you will probably find a stitch (一针) missing.”

I took the blanket off, but it looked as perfect as any design could be. Then suddenly, I noticed that sure enough a stitch was missing!

“But why do the Navajo intentionally leave some tiny part unfinished?” I asked.

“They believe that when anything is completed or finished, it means the end has come — it will not be perfect until then. Then too, with a circle, they believe that they must leave a pathway for the bad spirits to run away and the good spirits to come in. So, often, they do not make the line close.”

Once upon a time, a library was just about the only place that someone could go to get a book or go to read for free. Then came the arrival of the Internet, and that changed everything. Before long, books were available on different sites on the web. It was only a matter of time until Kindle, Nook, and other e-readers swept the scene. Along with them came the e-book. Many believed that this would be the end of libraries. But libraries still exist today, and many of them even thrive(繁荣). So, how is it possible that they survived against the onslaught of e-books?
For one thing, the truth is that libraries were never just about borrowing books for free. Librarians provide many services other than those of a desk clerk or customer service agent. They often hold seminars, presentations, contests, and other events to promote free education. These events are considered necessary by parents and kids alike.
For others, the library is a place where they can go to get away from the rush of the world and from social obligations or family troubles. Many go to the library to study for projects, papers and exams. Others simply see it as a recreational hobby.
For another thing, most libraries and librarians do not reject the changing tides of technology. And neither does the world, for that matter. In the US, the graduate degree program to become a librarian is often called a Library Science program. It reflects the fact that the country believes its librarians should keep up with the latest in information technology. Many librarians agree, and therefore have become experts in the field. Librarians have by now and large willingly educated themselves in the technology needed to keep up with the fast-paced digital world of technology today.
So consider a visit to your local library to see all the recent changes. If you haven’t been to one in a while you might not recognize the place. But don’t worry. Your librarian will be happy to bring you up to speed.

B.don’t need to have a graduate degree
C.can’t keep up with the world of technology

14. What’s the author’s attitude towards the future of librarians?
A.Hopeful.B.Careless.C.Doubtful.D.Disapproving.
15. Which of the following shows the structure of the text?
CP: Central Point   P: Point       Sp: Sub-point(次要点)       C: Conclusion
