We started out in a great morning and were heading over the mountain range to Ellensburg. We stopped at Snoqualmie summit for a quick rest. About a mile from there, we heard a loud sound and thought we might hit a rock. However, we were wrong.
As we were turning into the rest area, we heard a loud banging sound again, and all I could do was get this car pulled over and stopped. Once we got stopped, and tire pulled off, we found that the bolt (螺栓),which is necessary for the brake to work, had been missing. Had I hit the brake with any more speed, I am sure the car would have turned over and we could have all been killed.
The first thing we needed to do was get a new bolt, so my husband went to get a cup of coffee and to ask whether there would be an auto parts store. They told him where, and then he came back to find we had no way to get there. ____________________ One of the coffee volunteers was getting off her shift and offered to take him to the auto parts store. So this angel took him to Ellensburg to get the part, only to find out that it was the wrong part. So she came back to see if everything fit and sure enough, she offered to take him to the hardware store in town to see if they could find this bolt!
She spent well over 4 hours with us, driving us around to help fix our car and protect us until we were safe. She even followed us for a short time on the freeway until she knew we were well on our way safely. We were blessed that day, and when I told her she was an angel she just said we would do the same thing, and she was right, I would and I will again!

A.The author wished someone would help them.

Rebecca, who is a 25-year-old woman, has a rare condition. She can remember all the events she has experienced in her life. The events are so vivid(生动的), as if they happened just moments ago. But her vivid memories often become a reality. Rebecca said, “When I relive(再想起) memories, the emotions come back. So if it’s something that happened when I was younger, my emotions are about what I felt then. I also re-experience pain. For example, I remember falling over and hurting my left knee when I was three. When talking about it now, I’m getting pain in my left knee.”

However, there are times when Rebecca’s memories prove to be too overwhelming(压倒性的), and she has learnt relaxation and mindfulness(聚精会神) techniques to solve. “At school, it is a hindrance. I’m not very quick at processing(处理) things, so there is always so much going through my mind. At night, I have to sleep with the radio on and a soft light. If it’s too dark or quiet, my mind just recalls(再回忆起) all these memories and I can’t sleep,” Rebecca said.

In addition, Rebecca has no control over whether the memories she recalls will be positive or negative – recalling painful experiences with such vividness that she has suffered from post-traumatic (创伤后的) stress disorder. Rebecca said, “Recently, I went back to my old school for my sister’s high school graduation. Being in that building again brought all those memories flooding back. I burst into tears and had to leave.”

Rebecca and her mother Mrs. Barnes got in touch with the University of California in 2011. It was there that Rebecca knew she had Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory (HSAM). It’s reported that Rebecca is one of just 80 people worldwide, who have HASM. “Finding out about HASM has been such a positive experience. Now, Rebecca has been more positive and able to do things independently, which has been excellent,” Mrs. Barnes said.
9. What’s wrong with Rebecca?
A.She hardly sleeps well at night.
B.She usually gets hurt easily by others.
C.She can’t distinguish between reality and dreams.
D.Her vivid memories lead her to experience sufferings.
10. What does the underlined word “hindrance” mean in Paragraph 2?
A.priority(优先权)B.advantage.
C.difficulty.D.opportunity.
11. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A.Rebecca had a strong dislike of going to school.
B.Rebecca was moved to tears at her sister’s graduation.
C.Rebecca and her sister once studied in the same school.
D.Rebecca enjoyed a happy life during her high school years.
12. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that Rebecca_____.
A.has got her life improved gradually
B.was influenced by her mother to be positive
C.was admitted into the University of California
D.became well-known due to her rare condition

The biggest challenge faced by travelers especially those who like to have a hiking trip is how to ensure a steady supply of clean clothes. Now, thanks to a great invention called Scrubba Wash Pack, that worry may be a thing of the past.

The portable(手提的) washing machine was invented by Ash Newland in 2010, while planning to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Struck by the limited packing space, he got inspiration(灵感) from traditional washboards to create a bag that could be used to clean clothes. Then he gave up his career as a lawyer and focused on perfecting the bag’s design. By 2012, the bag was ready for the public. It weighed only 180 grams and required very little storage space, making it perfect for anyone wishing to travel light.

Not surprisingly, the bag worth 55 dollars was an instant hit with travelers, university students and even passengers. However, Newland was not satisfied. He still saw a flaw(缺点) with his invention – dirty clothes had to be carried around in a separate bag! The recently introduced Scrubba Wash Pack solves that problem.

In order to make the pack active, dirty clothes are placed inside the bag along with two to three liters of water. The bag is then shut tightly to ensure all air is squeezed out(挤出去) and the clothes are massaged for a few minutes. After a quick wash, they are clean and ready to be dried. According to Newland, the pack can clean anything from jeans to smelly socks! What’s even more amazing is that with a capacity to hold 13-liters of water, it can be used to wash more clothes at a time.

The best part is that the 99-dollar pack that will be available for sale later this year, only weighs 300 grams and is completely foldable, making it easy to store when it’s not in use. With the Scrubba Wash Pack, wandering through foreign cities searching for a washing shop, or paying for washing machines may soon be a thing of the past!

A.The invention was not so convenient.
B.Clothes couldn’t be washed well.
C.The bag couldn’t contain enough water.

15. It can be inferred that the improved Wash Pack ______.
A.turns to be much environmentally friendlier
B.will replace the traditional washing machines
C.can encourage more people to travel a long distance
D.will be widely used by more travelers in the future
