Thunderstorm

Thunderstorm was the first work of Cao Yu. Praised as one of China’s most enduring dramas of the 20th century, Thunderstorm tells of a tragedy (悲剧) between two families during the1920s. The intense conflicts are all presented in a day’s time within the drama.
Sunrise

Sunnse is set in Tianjin in the 1930s. It centers on the tragedy of Chen Bailu. It discloses the social conflicts and unfortunate life of those living at the bottom of society at that time. The drama also expresses the longing for brightness indicated by the name and order of its four acts — dawn, dusk, midnight and sunrise.
Rickshaw Boy
Playwright: Mei Qian
The drama Rickshaw Boy is adapted from the novel of Lao She, a Chinese literary giant. It tells the sad story of`Xiangzi, a rickshaw boy in Beijing in the 1920s who dreams of running his’ own firm. However, after a series of misfortunes, Xiangzi is no longer an honest and optimistic young country boy.
The Teahouse
Playwright: Lao She
Consisting of three acts, the play tells stories taking place in the Beijing Yutai Teahouse and the fate of Wang Lifa, the owner of the teahouse. It mirrors the great social changes in China from 1898 to the 1940s. The Teahouse is also the first Chinese drama production to be performed overseas.

Four years ago, life rewarded me for all the challenges I embraced in search of self-improvement. My spirits rose when I was selected to be in the Youth Exchange and Study (YES) programme and I realized that I was going to spend a full year in the United States. Before that moment, living on the other side of the Atlantic had always equated—for a young Moroccan woman who had never set foot abroad—to an anxiety-free atmosphere, welcoming neighbors, and countless opportunities. Fortunately, my host community checked all these boxes.
My host mother went above and beyond to take care of my needs, my teachers were very accommodating with regards to my schoolwork, and I could use my status as an exchange student as an excuse when I needed a favor or an exception. As a YES student, peers from so many diverse backgrounds at school were interested in getting to know me better. With all this unique treatment, I thought to myself, “Hold on a second! Is this what you came for?” Even though my host community was so helpful and welcoming, I realized that I was growing too content with my life. I remembered that I came to the United States for a challenge and that I was determined to strengthen my capacities.
To develop greater perseverance, I joined my host school’s swim team, even though I had no prior experience in this sport. For over five months, I walked myself—sometimes reluctantly—to swim practices. During those practices, I did the best I could for three hours each day.
One of my best achievements that year was competing in one of the biggest swim meets of the year. From an outsider’s perspective, it might not seem like much, especially since I didn’t even win. However, I was never the athletic type, nor have I ever been particularly outstanding in terms of discipline and commitment. Yet that was exactly what I achieved. I gained discipline and I came to the realization that I do not need to be perfect at everything that I try for the first time.
Growth can take many forms. In my case, it took the form of a humid ceiling and an overly tight polyester cap. Growth can only be achieved by defying personal limits and breaking free from comfort zones. This is not always a glamorous process, but it always brings you closer to a new and improved version of yourself!

What can bring people from around the world together? Skin colour? Language? A favourite football team? According to a recent study conducted by OnePoll, a London-based marketing research company, food is the answer.
OnePoll surveyed 2,000 people around the world. 84% of participants said that food had the power to connect people of different cultures and backgrounds.
“Food has to do with how we live—it’s not just something that we ingest. Food is a part of our lives, and it helps bring people closer together,” one participant in the survey said.
People can get a better understanding of another culture through trying its cuisine. For example, Chinese culture is based on the idea of harmony (和谐), which can be seen in almost every aspect of life in China, most noticeably its cuisine. In Chinese cuisine, every ingredient is used in a balanced way to create delicious dishes that go well together. Another example is the rich diversity of American cuisine, which directly reflects the rich diversity of its multicultural influence.
Food can help strengthen cultural ties. Every country has its own way of doing things, which means that sometimes there can be very little common ground between countries. However, every country has food in common—after all, we all need to eat. So something as simple as a dinner gathering has the power to bring together people from different countries or cultures. In fact, food is often the catalyst (催化剂) in forming many important decisions and friendships.
“We believe food has a transcending (超越的) ability to connect us, and that delicious things can happen when we share heritage, culture, and uniqueness through food,” said Jason Levine, one of the survey’ s conductors.

For instance, its revenue (收入) in 2021 declined nearly 30 percent, according to its annual report. For a company like Huawei, this was a major shock and could pose a persistent problem that needed immediate attention. Therefore, it was crucial for Huawei to have its own core technology, especially when it came to chips. Developing chips is a lengthy, demanding, and labor-intensive (劳动密集型的) process, but this didn’t stop Huawei. Instead of purchasing or leasing products from other countries, Huawei decided to invest heavily in research and development.
Huawei’s difficulties are similar to those faced by modern China in its early days. During that time, China lacked advanced technology. Despite this, China managed to develop its own atomic bombs, aircraft carriers, satellites, and fighter jets starting from zero. These advancements guided the country to prosperity and power.
With a determined attitude and united team, Huawei has been successful in breaking free from the chains of past difficulties. In this context, Huawei is “a light canoe that has passed the mountains”.As a storm of trouble approached, Huawei chose to confront it rather than give up. Huawei’s attitude of struggling and pushing ahead is the best presentation of the Chinese national spirit and serves as an example for others to follow. In the face of life’s unknown challenges, the key is to look ahead and not give in.
