Seoul is a modern city full of delicious food options (选择) as well as great attractions, historical sights, and places to shop.
Best time to visit
The best month for sightseeing in Seoul is during the warm weather between summer and early fall.
Getting around
In Seoul, you have three main forms of transportation: train, subway, and taxi. The fastest option to get around Seoul is the Airport Railroad Express train. It has two options: the Express and the All-stop. While the All-stop option is cheaper, it’s about 15 minutes slower than the Express. Seoul has one of the largest subway stations in the world with 14 lines. It may seem a bit awful, but once you get used to it, it’s pretty easy.
Another option to get around Seoul is to rent a car. This is one of the least used options as Seoul has a convenient public transportation system.
Places to visit
Everland—the largest theme park in Korea.
Lotte World—a great theme park for kids with never-ending thrill rides.
Seoul Tower—a symbolic skyscraper where you can take breathtaking views of the city. Trickeye 3D museum—if you love photos, you will find strange photos in this museum.

Fifty years ago, the well-loved musician Bob Dylan played at the Newport Folk Festival and was widely booed (嘘声). The audience may have been unhappy but Dylan’s performance helped change the direction of music and culture in the United States.
The mid-1960s were a time of great change. One such place of change was the world of folk music. Bob Dylan became a symbol of change when he moved from acoustic (原声的) to electric guitar.Rock music historian Elijah Wald has written a new book about the change. It is called “Dylan Goes Electric”.
“There was a moment in the early 1960s when you could look at the Billboard charts and seven of the top 10 albums were folk records. And Joan Baez, Peter Paul and Mary, the Kingston Trio, all had huge, huge, huge number-one records.”
And then this happened: The “British Invasion” introduced the world to the Beatles and grew a huge fan base for rock music. “That worried many folk musicians,” says Elijah Wald.
They hoped that Bob Dylan would come to the rescue. However, a new Dylan sound came from the stage.
Bob Dylan had gone electric, and the followers of folk music were not pleased.
“When Dylan went electric, I think one of the issues was the feeling that — wait a minute, he’s gone over to the enemy.”
Folk lovers had looked to Bob Dylan to save their movement from rock and roll. But, author Wald says Dylan felt differently about the music.
“Dylan had always liked rock and roll and Dylan didn’t think of rock and roll as stupid music.” In fact, Dylan was a Beatles fan. He later said that from the first time he heard the Beatles he knew “they were pointing to the direction where music had to go.”
Beyond the music, Dylan’s performance that night also marked a turn in American culture.

Children who spend more time outdoors may have a lower risk of becoming nearsighted, new research suggests.
In the study, researchers looked at about 1,900 schoolchildren. The scientists found that the kids who had been instructed to spend more time outdoors for three years were 23 percent less likely to develop nearsightedness during this time than those who had not been instructed.
The researchers selected six schools and required the children, whose average age was 7 at the start of the study,to attend one additional 60-minute class of outdoor activities during each school day for three years. The parents of these children were also encouraged to join their children for outdoor activities after school, especially during weekends and holidays. The other children, from another six schools, continued their usual activity patterns. After three years,30.4 percent of the kids in the intervention(干预) group became nearsighted, compared with 38.5 percent of the kids in the other group.
It is not clear exactly why spending more time outside would benefit children’s eyesight, the researchers said. However, some research has suggested that the higher levels of light intensity found outdoors may increase the release of the chemical dopamine(多巴胺)of the eye. In turn, dopamine is known to restrain(抑制)the type of growth in the eye that is associated with nearsightedness.
Based on the new results, the researchers recommend that children spend more time outdoors because of the potential benefits to their eyesight. However,it's important to protect kids' skin and eyes from UV light, which can be damaging.

“You’re so smart!” This encouraging response to children’s math performance is commonly heard. Recently, a new study, conducted by the University of Georgia, found that encouraging children with responses related to their personal characteristics or inborn abilities might weaken their math achievement over time.
Parents who make comments connecting their children’s performance with personal qualities like IQ are using what’s referred to as person responses. In contrast, parents who connect their children’s actions, such as efforts or strategy use, to their performance are using process responses.
For the study, researchers asked more than 500 parents to report on how they responded to their children’s math performance and their math beliefs and goals. Children were divided into two groups across a year to measure their math achievement.
The results show that parents who view math ability as changeable are more likely to give process responses focused on their children’s strategy use and efforts rather than their IQ or other personal qualities. In contrast, parents who believe math ability is unchangeable and that math failure can’t be constructive give more person responses. Parents with high expectations for their children give both responses. While responses focused on strategy and efforts are not related to any achievement results, children who receive more responses about their personal qualities — especially, related to failure — are more likely to avoid harder math problems, show higher levels of math anxiety, and score lower on math achievement tests.
Because person responses mean poor math change in children over time, researchers suggest parents limit this type of responses at home. Another recommendation for parents is to think about their own beliefs and goals for their kids and examine how these might lead them to respond in person or process ways. Simply telling parents to avoid talking about math ability may not be enough. Focusing less on how children perform and more on their strategy and enjoyment of math might be a more effective way to encourage children.
32. Which of the following is an example of process response?A.What works well for your study? | B.Running is in your DNA. |
C.You are a lucky dog. | D.Why are you such a math talent? |

How to mend a broken friendship? It may be hard, but fixing a broken friendship will make it even stronger than before. Here are some tips that will be useful.
Be the one to reach out before the other.
If your friend refuses to see or speak with you, or visiting them in person isn’t an option, you may want to just back off for a while. Your friend wants space and that should be respected. Use the time to reflect on the situation and prepare what you want to say. Don’t push your friend if it’s clear they want space. It will only upset them and make them frustrated with you.
Talk about the problem honestly and openly.
Explain what you feel is the problem and be honest about it. Then ask them to do the same. Let them talk for as long as they need to. Really listen and don’t interrupt them.
Apologize to them and accept their apology.
Even if you didn’t do anything and you believe the situation is their fault, opening with an apology sets the tone. You could say “I’m really sorry things have gotten to this point. I want things to be better between us.” If you did wrong them in some way, apologize to them sincerely.
Avoid restarting an argument.
It’s important that you don’t say or do anything hurtful during this conversation.
A.Let go of your anger or frustration. |
B.Respect your friend’s need for space. |
C.If they apologize to you, accept their apology. |
D.Come up with a plan for rebuilding the friendship. |
E.Argument will only further damage the friendship and make things worse. |
F.If you aren’t talking to each other, someone will have to make the first move. |
G.This way you both get to tell your side of the story and get everything out on the table. |
