We often meet with losses and downs in life.When I was young,I always went to my family and friends for help. As I grew older and became more independent,the advice from them wasn't enough and I began to read some books, which helped me a lot.Here I’d like to recommend some of them to you.

This book was written in 1998,and in it,Howard Cutler asks Brendan Burchard,an outstanding philosopher, questions.Cutler is a psychiatrist（神经病学家）aiming to understand what the purpose of life is according to Brendan Burchard.Burchard in turn describes what he believes the purpose of life is: it's being happy.

Coelho uses a fictional story to describe the potential theme of this book.You have the power to create your own future.Only you have the ability to create the kind of life you want for yourself.Of course,you're required to work and devote yourself to achieving your goals.

Archimedes was a great scientist who lived in Greece long,long ago.He was so wise that even the king was his friend.

One day the king asked him,"How do you like my new crown?It's all gold."The king continued,"I gave a man gold to make this crown.But I think he may have kept some of it.”

“You are a wise man,”the king went on.“Find out if this crown is all gold.That way I will know if the man kept some of my gold.”

Archimedes thought about the crown for a long time.Then,one day he had an idea.He thought of it as he stepped into his bathtub.He saw that the water ran out over the sides.

"I've got it!"he yelled.He jumped out of his bathtub.He ran all the way to the king's home even without dress.

Archimedes asked the king for a piece of gold."It must be the same size as the one you gave the man,”he said. Then he filled a tub with water.In it he put the piece of gold.The water rose.He then took the gold out.He put the crown in the tub.The water rose even higher than before.That should not have happened!The crown and the piece of gold should have taken up the same space in the tub.Something had been added to the crown.It may have been silver. It may have been something else.But the crown was not all gold.

Archimedes’s idea was so clever that it is still used today.And he went on to learn many other things.But he sometimes got his ideas in strange places.

When I was 7 years old,I felt really happy for the first time in my life.I remember that my teacher allowed each student to play various educational games in turn on a computer designed for teaching.One day,I found the source code（编码）for one of these games.Without knowing or being taught any programming language,I was able to figure out some of the BASIG code.I just gave myself aninterminatenumber of lives in the game,so I could continue playing it forever.This was also my first introduction to algebra（代数）,and I didn't even know it at the time.This was a decisive moment in my life.I was quite excited because of what I was learning and what I was able to do.As a result,I was enthusiastic（充满热情的）for the rest of my life about self-learning and computers,and I was quite happy doing them too.

I've noticed that people who are truly content with life are enthusiastic about what they do.This enthusiasm, along with good health,is the key to being happy.It also leads to self-confidence and content in life too.It may also lead to success,wealth,and achievements.

Success,wealth,or achievements can also bring some people happiness,yet I know plenty of rich people who are unhappy.I know many people with successful businesses that are not happy with what they are doing.I know people who continuously buy themselves new toys,such as cars,computers,and televisions,yet never seem content for too long.Please remember,happiness is the journey of life,not the destination.
