Join us on December 17th, 2017(2nd day of Hanukkah) for our annual Hanukkah Family Fun Fest for an exciting day of fun activities for the whole family. The Hazimir Choir will provide holiday musical entertainment. Drum Tales will present “The Hearty Story of Hanukkah” show. There will be ceramic（陶瓷）painting of dreidels. menorahs（烛台）, and other Hanukkah items for the kids. And fun foods, crafts and activities will be happening throughout the day. Bring the whole family and enjoy a fun -filled day！

Drum Tales is fun, interactive percussive（打击乐）and musical. It is much like the traditional drum circle concept. It combines story telling, musical instrumentation and song. Each participant is given a percussive instrument which becomes their media of transportation to far away lands and exotic（异国情调的）places, to ride the waves of mystery of an unfolding plot, and into the deep realm of imagination and the colorful beyond. Teaching Poetry

No poem should ever be discussed or "analyzed"， until it has been read aloud by someone， teacher or student． Better still， perhaps， is the practice of reading it twice， once at the beginning of the discussion and once at the end， so the sound of the poem is the last thing one hears of it．

All discussions of poetry are， in fact， preparations for reading it aloud， and the reading of the poem is， finally， the most telling "interpretation" of it， suggesting tone， rhythm， and meaning all at once． Hearing a poet read the work in his or her own voice， on records or on film， is obviously a special reward． But even those aids to teaching can not replace the student and teacher reading it or， best of all， reciting it．

I have come to think， in fact， that time spent reading a poem aloud is much more important than "analyzing" it， if there isn't time for both． I think one of our goals as teachers of English is to have students love poetry． Poetry is "a criticism of life"， and "a heightening of lief"． It is "an approach to the truth of feeling"， and it "can save your life"． It also deserves a place in the teaching of language and literature more central than it presently occupies．

I am not saying that every English teacher must teach poetry． Those who don't like it should not be forced to communicate this to anyone else． But those who do teach poetry must keep in mind a few thins about its essential nature， about its sound as well as its sense， and they must make room in the classroom for hearing poetry as well as thinking about it．

Scientists have been studying how people use money for long. Now they’re finding some theories may apply to one group of monkeys.

Researchers recently taught six monkeys hos to use money. They gave the monkeys small metal disks (圆片) that could be used like cash and showed them some yummy apple pieces. The monkeys soon figured out that if tyey gave one of the disks to a scientist, they’d receive a piece of apple in return.

If you think that is all the monkeys can figure out, you are wrong. Two researchers, Jake and Allison, acted as apple sellers in the experiments. The monkeys were tested one at a time and had 12 disks to spend in each experiment. Jake always showed the monkeys on apple piece, while Allison always showed two pieces. But that’s not necessarily what they gave the monkeys. The number of apple pieces given for a disk was determined at random.

Experiment One: Allison showed two pieces of apples but gave both piece only half the time. The other half, she took one piece away and gave the monkey just the remaining piece. Jake, on the other hand, always gave exactly what he showed: one piece for each disk. The monkeys chose to trade more with Allison.

Experiment Two: Allison continued to sometimes gave two pieces and sometimes one piece. But now, half the time, Jake gave the one apple piece he was showing, and half the time he added a bonus. Guess what? The monkeys chose to trade more with Jake.

In the first experiment, the monkeys correctly figured out that if they traded with Allison, they’d end up with more treats. In the second one, when a monkey received two pieces from Jake, it seemed like a gain. When Allison gave the monkey only one piece instead of the two she showed, it seemed like a loss. The monkeys preferred trading with Jake because they’d rather take a chance of seeming to win than seeming to lose.

We also sometimes make silly business decisions just to avoid the feeling that we’re getting less, even when we’re not. Would you have made the same choices?

Japanese researchers made a botanical announcement on Monday that quickly circled the world. They had developed a banana with an eatable peel （皮）—the Mongee banana.

The technique used by scientists at D&T Farm is called “freeze thaw awakening”. The process involves starling banana trees out in an environment that’s nearly minus-80 degrees Fahrenheit, then moving the trees with their still-ripening bananas to a climate of around 80 degrees - an environment banana trees typically grow in the entire time. The extreme temperature change puts the banana’s growth into a superfast-speed mode. In this case, the fruit ripens before the skin can catch up. The result is soft and thin skin that hasn’t fully developed.

The banana has been produced only in small amount so far, so customers face a steep bill to save themselves the bother of peeling their banana: it is currently priced at 648 yen ($6) a piece.There’s also the question of whether a banana peel is actually worth eating and whether regular banana peels had, rather suddenly, become too big a problem for people who slip on them to bear anymore.

And what about shipping? For most of the fruit’s history, the peel has provided protection, allowing it to travel long distances from where it’s grown to nearly every country on Earth. A softer banana would be a step back from regular banana varieties that travel thousands of miles.

But the banana in the news is arguably good, particularly for a fruit that rarely receives its share of attention. Bananas are the most   consumed fruit in Japan, and also in the U.S. So even if eatable-peel bananas don’t ensure plentiful bananas, or even necessarily nutritious bananas, they still look great on Instagram, which probably ensures them a future in Japan’s famous luxury （奢侈） fruit markets.

Life is full of surprises and events that sometimes change one’s daily routine. Some of them might be good and pleasant.     16     The unexpected events may cause you anxiety and stress. So you need to find some ways to be less affected by them.

    17     Even if you live the same kind of life, doing the same things day after day, there could be unexpected events. So you need to realize that such events can’t be avoided and you need to be prepared for them. In this way, you’ll find it easier to deal with whatever happens in your life.

Have a positive attitude. Not all unexpected events are bad.     18     For example, even getting fired for work could finally turn out well, as you might find a more satisfying job.

Always focus on the present moment, learning from it and making use of new changes that come your way. In other words, make the most of the present moment, instead of thinking about what you lost, or how bad the situation is.     19    

Introduce small changes into your life.     20     You can try eating a different breakfast or drink tea in the morning instead of coffee, or do things that you usually do, but in a different way.

Recently, we’ve learned the news what our English teacher is retiring next month. Heard the news, we felt really down and couldn’t help thought of our days together. In our eyes, she is not only a teacher, but also one of our closely friends. During the past three years, we had all grown into hard-working and active learners under her guidance. She has taught us a lot of English knowledges and how be a good citizen. Whenever we had problems, she was always the one we were turned to for advice and help.

We wish her lucky and happiness in his life after retirement.
