If you have never been to a gym before, then it is quite possible that you aren’t sure how to tell a good gym from one that may not suit you. Perhaps many of the things you should look for are simply common sense.    1    Here are four things to look out for when finding a gym.

Location. Is the gym you are looking at near your home or work?    2    Even the most dedicated trainers would have a hard time travelling 45 minutes to get to a gym.

The fee.     3    Be aware of what you are looking for in a gym and what you will be paying for in a membership. If you just want to use the weights but are getting charged for the tennis courts, the swimming pool, etc, you may wish to look into another gym.

4     If the gym is dirty and the equipment is falling apart then chances are that it is not a good choice. Look for well-maintained equipment and a clean gym. You want the gym to be cleaned regularly and have some type of cleaner on hand. Remember no matter where you go, you should always wash your hands regularly.

Selection of equipment.     5     Some people like a wide variety of equipment and machines while others just need some benches. A gym that has too much equipment can be just as bad as a gym that doesn’t have enough, as the equipment can be quite confusing. Be sure the equipment suits your needs.

A.Quality of the Facility.
B.Equipment to suit you.
C.This is a very individual point.
D.The location of your gym can be the determining factor.
E.If it isn’t, then it may become inconvenient very fast.
F.However, there are others which might not be so obvious.
G.Some of the best gyms around are also the most reasonably priced

【推荐1】Once people finish reading a book, they are likely to have an impulse to write about it. Those who read and write a lot may want to become book reviewers.     1    . But most have at least a high school diploma and, in many cases, they have a college degree in literature or a related field. For professional book reviewers, an English or writing degree is also a popular choice.

It generally takes much patience to become a book reviewer. Also, it’s important to learn much about book reviewing ahead of time. Read as many book reviews as possible to get an idea of the tone and content of the reviews. And remember book reviews are a little different from book critiques.     2    .

If you want to become a book reviewer, it’s necessary to determine what type of book you wish to review. Most book reviewers specialize in one specific type.     3    . Whichever type you want to review, you should truly enjoy reading it and be relatively knowledgeable about common themes and plot methods.

4    . Even if the reviews are never published, it’s important to have pieces of book reviews. Most editors won’t hire a reviewer without any pieces of book reviews. It may be easier to start writing for a university newspaper or a local newspaper while you’re still in college. Another option is to write reviews and post them on a blog. Thus, you prepare yourself for becoming a book reviewer.

Most book reviewers do not work for one particular medium and are paid per piece.     5    . In exchange, they will receive free books to review, sometimes ahead of their publication dates. It can be difficult to get started, as with any freelance writing career, but for someone who enjoys reading and writing about books, it is an excellent choice.

A.And the salary can be high
B.Some simply write book reviews on a voluntary basis
C.Interestingly, there are different types of book reviewers
D.It can be popular fiction, historical fiction or anything else
E.They are traditionally less formal compared with the latter
F.It’s impossible to become a reviewer without writing some reviews

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章提出了一些有助于睡眠的建议。

【推荐2】Almost 40% of people surveyed in 13 countries have reported sleep issues over the past two years, according to the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine. It’s normal to wake up at night, especially as you age, but negative news can activate your mind and make it hard to fall asleep.     1     The following tips can help, too.

Test your pillow.

If you bought your pillow in 2020, guess what? It’s already old. The National Sleep Foundation recommends replacing them every one to two years. A pillow past its prime can cause neck and shoulder pain—and restless sleep.     2     If you sleep on your back, look for a thinner pillow. If you sleep on your side, a thicker pillow is better.

Get active during the day.

3     It can also increase the amount of time you spend in the deep stages of sleep at night. Try to stay active during the day by participating in activities that you enjoy. Just don’t work out too close to bedtime or it may further interfere with your sleep.

    4

Want to reduce those annoying nighttime trips to the bathroom? Cut back on peanuts and crisps. In a Japanese study, researchers followed 321 patients with high-salt diets and sleep issues for 12 weeks. When people cut down on salt, their average bathroom trips decreased from twice a night to once.

Tackle your troubles before dinner.

If you need an airing of grievances, don’t wait until nighttime. “Right before dinner is a good time to work things out,” says Ashley Mason, a professor at the University of California. If you start an argument after dinner, your quarreling can continue until bedtime.     5

A.Keep a healthy diet.
B.Skip salty snacks before bed.
C.Regular exercise can help ease stress and anxiety.
D.A pillow is really of great importance to your sleep.
E.To purchase the right one, determine your sleep style.
F.Simple steps such as turning off screens 30 minutes before bedtime can help.
G.One research even suggests that going to bed angry may make you bad-tempered next morning.

【推荐3】Are you ambitious? Do you want to be successful? I believe most young people have a dream.     1

First, be passionate about what you do. If you do something primarily for love and not for other reasons, probably it will lead you to success. Take Yuan Longping, the father of hybrid rice, one of the most influential scientists in agriculture, for example. For more than 50 years, he devoted his life to rice production and his research has not only helped China find a way to remove hunger, but also contributed to world peace and social progress.

Second,     2     When Ma Yun first had the idea of quitting his job as a college teacher and starting up an online shopping company, everybody thought he was crazy. But he was confident that this company would be successful. Now Alibaba has not only become the biggest online sales company in the world, but also changed people's shopping habits as well.

It isn't just confidence. My third tip is: work hard. The "10,000-hour rule for success" states that you need to practise for a minimum of 10,000 hours. That's about six hours a day for five years. Bill Gates is a good example. For about five years, when he was a teenager,     3     His hard work gave him a big advantage over other people and he became one of the founders of Microsoft at the age of 20.

My tip number four is: set your goals high. At the age of five, Novak Djokovic decided he didn't want to be just a good tennis player, he wanted to be the best tennis player in the world. In2011, Djokovic, aged 24, won 3 major world championships and became the World Number One.

Finally, my last tip is: keep trying. Luckily for Harry Potter fans, the author J.K Rowling didn't listen to the negative comments from the 12 publishers who rejected her books.     4     Even the publisher who gave her a contract said she had no chance of making money in children's books. He was wrong and for the last 20 years, J.K. Rowling has been the author of the most famous children's books in the world.

5     You can become successful, too! Follow the five secrets, and you are to succeed!

A.These successful people started at the bottom and got to the top.
B.For 2 years, she tried to get them published.
C.Your dream can be realized if you recite many more secrets.
D.Our children want to read Harry Potter eagerly.
E.he spent 10,000 hours working on a basic computer.
F.be confident.
G.Follow our five secrets and you can make it!
