One of the most effective skills you can have in life is powerful and effective time management.     1     Here are vital time management tips for getting your goals.

Set goals the right way.

2     If you don’t set your goals the right way, then you’ll lack the proper targets, which will force you to fall off track. But when you set them the right way, the sky is the limit. Use proper goal setting method to help you see things through. And when you do set those goals, make sure you have powerful deep down meanings for wanting to achieve them.

Find a good time management system.

One of the tips for managing your time is to find the right system to actually do it. The quadrant(象限)time-management system is probably the most effective.     3     Things are either urgent or important, both, or neither.

Take frequent breaks when working.

One study suggests that you should work for 52 minutes and break for 17 minutes. You might not have enough time to do that. But you should take frequent breaks. If you’re a boss working for yourself, this is vital. It’s easy to run out of energy and not even know it.     4

Make to-do lists in the evening for the next day.

Every single evening before bed, make a list for the next day. Look at your goals and see what you can do to help move you closer.     5     It takes time. But by making to-do lists, you’re effectively setting goals for the day. Daily goals are easier to achieve while helping to move us towards the longer and bigger goals. But that happens by creating to-do lists.

A.This doesn’t happen overnight.
B.There’s a right or wrong way to set goals.
C.Use your time wisely by abandoning your bad habits.
D.You cannot reach your goals without managing your time well.
E.Find a good friend who can help you solve the problem of time management.
F.It divides your activities into four quadrants based on urgency and importance.
G.Keep your mental, emotional and physical states at peak levels by breaking frequently.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。作者通过讲述音乐人Brian Johnson听力受损这一事实,分析了造成此现象的原因及为减少伤害采取的措施。提醒我们时刻注意音乐的音量减少其对听力的伤害。

【推荐1】AC/DC have postponed their US, tour after singer Brian Johnson was warned by doctors that he was at risk of“ total hearing loss". This is unsurprising that the Australian band has been pumping out the hard rock decibel(分贝). But deafness isn’t only a concern for rock musicians. Anyone around music a lot has reason to be equally worried.

When you are exposed to music, risk to hearing arises from a combination of how loud the sound is and how long you’ re exposed to it for. If you visit a nightclub with music at 100 dB, then after only 10~15 minutes the exposure is potentially damaging. In a quieter part of the club, but where the music is still loud enough that you have to shout at your friends, them you could be there for a couple of hours before having to worry about your hearing. Of course music frequently exceeds (超过) 80~85 dB, but what counts most in assessing the risk to hearing is the average exposure.

Exposure to high noise levels often causes temporary deafness-something many people have experienced after going to a nightclub. While hearing usually recovers , repeated loud exposure leads to permanent hearing damage. Initially, this damage is unlikely to be noticed by the listener. Problems only become significant in middle age when the noise-caused hearing loss combines with the natural loss of hearing due to ageing.

Often orchestras employ screens or “musicians ear plugs” to block sound from the loudest instruments. These decrease sound without completely blocking everything out and are very useful in rehearsal(训练), but get in the way of balancing the sound in a concert. Professional orchestras also look at how they schedule music to ensure that musicians are exposed to a mixture of quiet and loud pieces. Given how loud their instruments are, drummers are particularly at risk, but using era plugs can go some way to reducing potential hearing loss. For rock and pop musicians, using in-ear monitors has the potential to reduce noise exposure.

Improved technology means the number of musicians having to give up performing could decrease, But student musicians need to be educated about the dangers of noise-caused hearing loss. The increasing use of headphones will also work against this. Unless people are careful with the volume level on their portable music players, hearing loss caused by music will increase.

文章大意:本文是说明文。介绍了几种控制注意力分散的方法。

【推荐2】You know you really want to get good grades. Your parents have put the pressure on, or you promised yourself you would do better.     1     Then keep reading for the best ways to cut out the distractions (分心) you have control over and minimize the ones you can’t stop completely.

Ignore specific distractions as you notice them. For example, you’re trying to study in the library and you keep getting distracted by someone texting. Take note of this specific distraction then tell yourself you are going to overcome it.     2     Keep practicing the trick every time the distraction comes up, and eventually you will no longer notice it.

Work with your energy levels.     3     Your energy level at the start of a study session will be higher, however, so it’s actually best to begin with the harder things. Put off the easier tasks instead. This will keep your focus sharp when you need it most.

Take a brief study break once in a while. It might seem against common belief, but stepping away from your studies now and then can actually be more beneficial than trying to work through everything without stopping. About once an hour, get up and take a short break of about 5 minutes.     4

5     Sometimes distractions can actually be used as an encouragement to get you through your studying. Say you need to study geometry for an hour but keep getting distracted by funny cat videos. Tell yourself that if you get through the hour of studying without being distracted, you’ll then let yourself watch all the cat videos you want.

A.But you keep getting distracted!
B.Give in to unavoidable distractions.
C.Use distractions as a reward to motivate yourself.
D.The next time you see it happen, will yourself not to look.
E.It’s natural to want to put off the most difficult or unpleasant tasks.
F.This makes studying seem less stressful, helping you to stay on task.
G.This helps refresh you so that you can stay focused when you come back to studying.

【推荐3】阅读下列短文,按照要求用英文回答问题.

When Veronika Scott was a student at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. Michigan, she received a task to “design to fill a need.”She dreamed up an idea for overcoats that would double as sleeping bags, made 25 of them, and handed them out to people living in shelters on an abandoned city playground. While her efforts were greeted mostly with enthusiasm from those braving Detroit's cold winters, one woman voiced dissatisfaction. “We don't need coats; we need jobs.” she told Veronika. Then she had her second inspiration.

After graduating from college in 2012, Veronika founded the Empowerment Plan, a nonprofit organization. She hired two homeless women to sew the coats and paid them with donations she received through her blog. Now, the Empowerment Plan employs about 20 people and has produced more than 10,000 coats and distributed them in 30 states, Canada, and elsewhere abroad.

“We don't require previous employment,” Veronika says. “We’re looking for people who are motivated." The Empowerment Plan provides free classes and lends money to those who qualify. Nearly all the employees eventually move into permanent housing, and some get jobs in the auto industry and construction.

Veronika has bettered the coat's design by making its outer layer of a lightweight material that resists air, wind, and water and its inner layer of a material that stores body heat. Still, Veronika is less focused on the coats than on the workers who make them. “At the end of the day,” she says, “the coat is a vehicle for us to employ people.”
