Imagine     1     (fly) down a mountain at 70, 80, even 90 miles per hour. Ski racing is not for the faint of heart. It takes a rare     2     (combine) of skill and courage.

Consider then Ralph Green. He does it with one leg. “He’s hard at work, towards his goal of becoming     3     Olympic champion. More     4     (specific), a Paralympic champion.

“This winter Ralph and     5     (dozen) of other athletes will train for a spot on the United States’ Disabled Ski Team and the chance     6     (compete) in the Paralympic Games.

“We have people that ski visually impaired, with a guide in front of them. We have paralysed athletes who ski in     7     you call a mono-ski (单板式滑雪板). We have people that ski with one arm or someone like me that skis with one leg.”

Green grew up in Brooklyn and he     8     (lose) his leg in an accident.     9     Green is broken in body, he is firm in spirit.

“Don’t be afraid to be different. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box.” And Green is speaking from experience. “I never thought I could have an impact     10     somebody else’s life.”

Taking a plane can be stressful, and it is made even more so when something unexpected happens-unless you get    1    angel on Earth, like one father did. After    2    （try）to check in for an upcoming flight with his daughter, the man    3    （tell）that his 2-year-old daughter would need her own ticket. He    4    （think）she was free of charge because of her age. The father was    5    （obvious）depressed, saying he didn't have the money, and walked away to make some phone calls. That's when a    6    （strange）stepped forward, approaching the counter to tell the airline conductor that she wanted to pay for the little girl's ticket—all $749 of it. The man was very surprised and    7    （thank）. He asked for the woman's name so he could repay her, but she insisted    8    remaining anonymous（匿名的）. The only thing anyone knows about her is    9    she did that day, thanks to a photo of her good deed circulating on Face book. More than 100,000 people made    10    （comment）on Face book and praised the woman for her kindness.

Mary will never forget the first time she saw him. He suddenly appeared in class one day,     1    ( wear ) sunglasses. He walked in as if he     2    ( buy ) the school. And the news     3    ( quick ) got around that he was from New York City.

For some reason he sat beside Mary. Mary felt     4    ( please ) , because there were many empty seats in the room. But she quickly realized that it wasn’t her, it was probably the fact that she sat in     5    last row.

If he thought he could escape attention by sitting at the back, he was wrong. It might have made it a little     6    ( hard ) for everybody because it meant they had to turn around, but that didn’t stop the kids in the class. Of course whenever they turned to look at him, they had to look at Mary,     7     made her feel like a star.

“Do you need those glasses for medical reasons?”the teacher asked. The new boy shook his head. “Then I’d appreciate it if you didn’t wear them in class. I like to look at your eyes when I’m speaking to you. ”The new boy looked at the teacher

    8    a few seconds and all the other students wondered     9    the boy would do. Then he took     10    off, gave a big smile and said, “That’s cool.”
