Eco-tourism involves people travelling to beautiful but environmental sensitive place. Such trips are usually carried out with a(n)     1     guide. Over recent years, this type of travel has been steadily gaining     2     as more people search for new travel experiences.

It is obvious that eco-tourism is beneficial in many aspects. First, all the money spent by the tourists is used to     3     the important environmental spots they visit. I fell in love with Yosemite National Park the first time I saw it, when I was in     1     high school. My parents took us there for camping. On the way out, I aske them to     2     while I ran up to E1 Capitan, a huge rock of 3,300 feet straight up. I touched that giant rock and knew immediately I wanted to climb it. That has been my life’ s passion(钟爱) ever since — climbing the rocks and mountains of Yosemite. I ve long made Yosemite my home.

About 15 years ago, I started seeing a lot of waste, like toilet paper, beer cans and empty boxes, around the area. It’s beyond me why visitors started     3     the place less and treated such a beautiful home-like place this way.

I tried picking up trash myself, but the job was too     4     . I would spend an hour or two on the job, only to find the area trashed all over again weeks later. Finally, I got so tired of it that I decided something had to change.

As a rock-climbing guide, I knew nothing about organizing any big     5     . But in 2004, together with some     6    , I set a date for a cleanup. On that day, more than 300 people showed up. Over three days we collected about 6,000 pounds of trash. It was     7     how much we were able to accomplish. I couldn’t believe the difference we made — the park looked clean!

Each year     8     come for the cleanup from everywhere. In 2007 alone, 2,945   people picked up 42,330 pounds of trash and covered 132 miles of roadway.

I often hear people complain about their surroundings. If you really want to     9    your environment, I would say the only way is by doing rather than complaining. We need to teach by example. You can affect others by your     10     . You can’t blame others unless you start with yourself.
