2020 Kids News Short Story competition
Kids News is starting its 2020 Kids News Short Story competition and wants to read all your wonderful stories. Kids News editor(编辑)Kamahl Cogdon encouraged all kids to enter and get all their creative stories down on paper.
"Last year we received almost 2,000 entries and the stories were great," MsCogdon said. "We have some very creative young minds across Australia and we are looking forward to reading more of their fantastic stories this year."
How to enter
·Entry to the competition is free for children from Kindergarten to Year 9 studying in an Australian school. One entry per person.
·All entrants(参赛者)must get permission(许可)from their schools and parents before entering this competition.
·Entrants can choose any topic they want.
·Entries must be submitted(提交)through the online competition form located at www.kidsnews.com.au.
·The competition starts at 9 am on Monday, May 11, 2020, and ends at 5 pm on Friday, July3, 2020.
Age categories:
Kindergarten to Year 2: entry must be between 250 and 750 words.
Years 3-4: entry must be between 250 and 750 words.
Years 5-6: entry must be between 500 and 1,000 words.
Years 7-9: entry must be between 500 and 1,000 words.

What is the role about?
Reading Friends is an exciting UK-wide programme from The Reading Agency. It’s been piloted in some other parts of the country over the last few years and now is being extended to Essex.
Developed with funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, Reading Friends deals with loneliness by bringing people together to read, chat and share stories. Essex Library Services is looking for volunteers to support the roll- out of the Reading Friends programme across Essex.
What will it involve?
*Chatting to people, either one to one, or in groups, using reading to get people talking. Contact will be via phone or computer initially. After restrictions are lifted, it is planned to do in-person sessions (活动时间) in libraries.
*Using reading — whether books, magazines, newspapers, or anything else — to start conversations. Nothing needs to be read before the session.

The Founder of WiTehch
Audrey Pe is an incoming high school junior from the Philippines. Because current Philippine curriculum is lacking in computer science education, Audrey taught herself to program using available online resources. As she pursued her interest in a technology career, she found very little support and no female role models within the industry. While attending tech conferences Audrey met other girls with similar interests for the first time. At 15 she gathered a team of students and founded Women in Technology (WiTech). WiTech is a community organization that educates, inspires and empowers young girls to break barriers and use technology to make positive differences in society.
