I have even wondered if money buys happiness. It seems that money will allow me     1    （buy）the things that make me happy. But one day I sat down and     2    （make）a list of the things I wanted to do in my life. I realized I'd never put much thought into it. I'd written down these things-like taking a photo on the mountain and staying at a hotel in Dubai, but I didn't really plan to do it,     3    （simple）because I didn't have the time.

My life consisted     4     heading to the office, running on the road, working some more... It didn't matter if my salary doubled; the life would stay     5     same. Sure I'd probably drive a     6    （nice）car, move into a bigger place, and have a bigger TV than my friends, but that wasn't helping me realize any of my goals. Six months after     7    （create）that list, my belief has changed. I'd keep working on my list, for     8    （experience）were much more important than any of the material items. It's not hard to create opportunity for     9    （you）. All it     10    （take）is a little creative thinking.

Around twenty years ago, I was going through hard times. I couldn’t find a     1     (satisfy) job. To my shame, I had to drive a school bus    2     (make) ends meet. One afternoon, while    3     (drive) through a suburban neighborhood, I was so sad that I kept asking    4     (I), “Why has my life become so hard? What’s wrong with the world?” Then I pulled over the bus to drop off a little girl. As she passed, she    5     (hand) me a pretty earring, saying she found it on the floor and I should keep it in case the owner came to look for it.

In the evening, the owner did come to look for her earring. When I gave it to her, she got excited and said    6     (excited), “Thanks, you are a real gentleman.” I told her that she should thank the little girl    7     had found it. She said, “Yes, and you are a good driver, too. What    8     lovely world it is”! Then she left with satisfaction. I    9     (touch) by her words. I had thought something was wrong with the world just because of my poor condition.     10     fact, nothing was wrong with the world. I should change my attitude towards life.

You will meet many people in school, in college and at work. They’ll try to have nicer cars, bigger houses or     1     (pretty) clothes. To them, life is a     2     (compete) — the have to do better than their peers to be happy.

Here’s a secret: life isn’t a match. It’s a journey. If you spend it always     3     (try) to impress others, you’re wasting your life. Instead, learn to enjoy the journey.    4     (make) it a journey of happiness of continual improvement, and one filled     5     love.

Don’t worry about having a nicer car or house or anything m a, or even     6     better-paying job. None of them matters, and none of them will make you happier. Instead, learn to be satisfied with having enough and then use the time     8    would have been wasted to earn money to buy those things.
