I can't remember if I was 9 or 10 years old, but I do remember that it was the last day of 4-H camp. I was looking in the mirror and checking my face for bruises(瘀伤), The day before, for some silly reason, I had gotten into a fistfight with another boy. It didn't take long for the bigger boys to pull us apart and call it a tie, but in truth, I had lost. My head was still painful from a couple of hard hits the other boy had succeeded in giving me. We hadn't talked since the fight either but only stared coldly at each other from across the room.

Still, I was in a good mood this morning because I knew my mom was bringing some of her homemade pizzas as a treat for my brother, me and our friends. Soon I saw her walking up the sidewalk toward the steps of our cabin(小屋). She had been bringing these pizzas to us every 4-H camp for years now. I saw her smile as my brother and his friends all grabbed(抓住)the big cut pieces. She made sure, though, to save the last two pieces for me. I thanked her with a smile and started to eat when I saw my fistfight “enemy" standing off to the side by himself.

When most of us get a text message on our cellphone from an unknown person, we usually say “sorry, wrong number!” and move on. But when Dennis, a photographer who has recorded countless touching moments for thousands of customers, received a text that clearly wasn’t intended for him, he did something special. This is how the story goes.

On March 19, Dennis got a group text informing him that a couple he didn't know were at the hospital, waiting for the arrival of a baby.

“Congratulations! But I think someone was mistaken,” Dennis responded politely. The baby was born and update texts were coming in quickly from the overjoyed grandmother, Teresa. In her excitement, she didn't seem to realize that she was sharing the baby's photos with a complete stranger. And seconds later in came the photos of the baby and the new parents, wearing perhaps the happiest expression in the world. Dennis was about to ignore the coming messages when here called those touching moments that he recorded with his camera and the similar shining faces from his customers. “Well, I don’t know you all but I will get there to take pictures with the baby,” replied Dennis. He even forgot to ask which room the new parents were in.

Much to the family’s surprise, Dennis stuck to his promise!

Mr. Dawson was always complaining about everything, and everyone in town knew it. Kids knew not to go into his yard to pick a delicious apple, even off the ground, because old Dawson, they said, would come after you with his ball bullet gun.

One Friday, 12-year-old Janet was going to stay all night with her friend Amy. They had to walk by Dawson’s house on the way to Amy’s house, but as they got close Janet saw him sitting on his front porch and suggested they cross over to the other side of the street. Like most of the children, she was scared of the old man because of the story she’d heard about him.

Amy said not to worry, Mr. Dawson wouldn't hurt anyone. Still, Janet was growing more nervous with each step closer to the old man’s house. When they got close enough, Dawson looked up with his usual frown, but when he saw it was Amy, a broad smile changed his entire face as he said, “Hello Miss Amy. I see you’ve got a little friend with you today.”

Amy smiled back and told him Janet was staying overnight and they were going to listen to. music and play games. Dawson told them that sounded fun, and offered them each a fresh picked apple off his tree. They gladly accepted. Dawson had the best apples in town.

When they got out of Dawson on earshot, Janet asked Amy, ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.

If we remember what Amy’s grandma said, that everyone wears an invisible smile, we too will find that most people can’t resist our smile after a while.
