What’s the key to perseverance (坚持)? Putting one foot in front of the other will make you reach the finish line, and there are tools you can use to help you face down challenges, meet your goals and truly enjoy the process, rather than just getting by.     1     Below are a few ways that help to increase your determination to keep moving forward.

Know what you want. Maybe your goal is small.     2     Or maybe it’s a big goal, like aiming to be a happier person. Either way, the path toward meeting your goals will be much clearer if you know what you really want.

3     The first challenge you likely meet is improving your self-confidence. It’s really difficult to make progress unless you believe you’re capable of persevering. However unachievable your goals may seem now, you have the intelligence and power to make it.

Face reality. Having the ability to face life’s challenges is a big advantage.     4     When a big problem appears, it’s so much easier to give it up or put off making a decision. Practice seeing challenges for what they are so you can figure out the best way around, over or through them.

Learn from your mistakes. You won’t always find your way on the first try. Wisdom is gained by making lots of mistakes and trying something different the next time around. Think about what has happened.     5

A.Get rid of self-doubt.
B.Make your choices carefully.
C.But it can be really difficult to do.
D.Try to avoid setting up general goals.
E.Then reflect on what you can learn from the experience.
F.Perseverance is a necessary quality for us to be successful.
G.For example, you may want to quit smoking or get a better job.

【推荐1】Few people actually like job interviewing.     1     That's not easy, but there are some ways to pull yourself together and feel more confident.

Prepare solid talking points. It's always best to over-prepare for possible questions by not only researching the company and the person interviewing you, but also by preparing answers and practicing those responses. Review the skills and experiences requested in the job announcement and have two or three examples of how you have demonstrated each one.     2

Remember: It's a two-way street. This is a conversation, not an interrogation(审问).     3     Remembering that this is a back and forth discussion, where you can—and should—ask questions as well as answer them, can help you feel more comfortable.

Just breathe.     4     Your body will relax a lot. You need to avoid upper chest breathing, as it tends to just move your stress upward to your face.

5     If you go into an interview picking apart your outfit(全套服装)or imperfect responses, you're only hurting your chances of coming off as calm and collected. Turn off your negative self-talk and then create a different self-talk message, like, "I am here to share the best of my ability and that is all I can really do".

Work it out. Putting in some gym time the morning of your interview can help you get rid of any nervous tension. Exercise helps calm your nervous system and tends to reduce the intensity of physical manifestations(表现形式)of stress such as restlessness.

A.Put your idea into practice
B.Stop the negative thoughts
C.Before you walk into your interview, take a few deep breaths.
D.Try to find out if the company has rules about dress.
E.You're trying to prove you're the one for the job and that you can handle stressful situations.
F.Don't forget that you're not the only one being interviewed—you're also interviewing the organization.
G.This will strengthen your answers and allow you to show how your experience is relevant to the job or organization for which you're being interviewed.

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章为空巢老人解决空巢综合征提供了一些有效的生活建议。

【推荐2】Even in difficult times, there is opportunity.     1    . It can be a challenging time for parents, involving emotional and practical changes, but while the empty nest syndrome(综合征)is a particular type of loss, it is also the start of a new chapter of your life. If you approach it in the right way, it can be just as much a time for self-discovery as it is a challenge.

Remember: you’re much more than just a parent

No one is defined by only one role. This includes parents―even if they sometimes feel that they are.    2    . You could reinvest in relationships, refocus on your career or become more active in any community involvements you have.

Remember what your kids want: your happiness

Leaving home is an exciting part of your children’s lives, but it’s unlikely that they’d want it to come at the expense of your happiness.     3    . The more you can find the positives in the situation, the more you’ll be able to be there for them.

    4

Big changes are often easier to deal with if you tackle them slowly rather than try to tackle a huge, complex situation in one go. The same is true of dealing with the loneliness of an empty home. A lot of people instantly cram(塞满)their diaries and think, “Oh, I’ll keep really, really busy.” But that can mean you’re not allowing yourself time to reflect on what’s going on.

When your children leave home, it isn’t the end of your relationship with them. It’s the beginning of phase two of your bond, which will most likely last far, far longer even than the years when you lived together.     5    . Your relationship with your children hasn’t gone anywhere. It’s going to be a source of great joy for years to come.

A.Whenever your child leaves home, take it seriously
B.Remember to take the long view
C.What’s more, they still need your support
D.Remember to take it a step at a time
E.Far from an ending, it’s a new beginning
F.The same is true of children leaving home
G.Having children leave home is a good opportunity to recognize all the other crucial roles you play
