As global warming becomes more and more serious, each one of us must take action to help.

First, diet.

Changing what you eat could easily have a significant effect because animal agriculture creates about 14% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions (排放).     1     Each kilo consumed produces 26.5 kilos of CO2 emissions, five times more than chicken or turkey. Changing to plant-based diets could reduce emissions greatly.

Second, travel.

Nearly all transport relies on fossil fuels. In the US, driving one mile in an average 2016 car emits 404 grams of CO2 equivalents per mile. But taking nearly any other means of transport will reduce CO2 emissions.     2

Third, energy.

3     But a few quick changes can make a difference. Switch from incandescent (白炽灯) lights to LEDs. They use a quarter of the energy and last 25 times longer. And taking for showers, the average water heater is set to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. But bringing it down by 20 degrees can save 250 kilograms of CO2.

Fourth, waste.

Think before you buy. The fashion industry creates about 10% of global greenhouse emissions and consumes more energy than flight and shipping combined.     4     If you' re buying food, bring your own containers and just get the amount you need.

Last but not least, plant a garden.

Plant a garden instead of building a yard out of cement (水泥), the production of which creates 8% of global CO2 emissions a year.     5

So from a burger to a cyclist, no one thing will have a big influence, but lots of little things can.

A.Almost every household appliance needs it.
B.When you do make a purchase, try to buy it in large quantity.
C.Planting a garden helps reduce CO2 emissions and produce oxygen.
D.Each of us contributes a particular amount of CO2 into the atmosphere.
E.As we all know, the environment around us is getting worse and worse.
F.After walking, cycling is the best choice because it almost has no emissions.
G.In 2017, beef was found to be one of the most damaging foods to the climate.

【推荐1】With the trans-Tasman travel now in place, many of us are dreaming of afternoons watching sunsets fall over New Zealand’s dramatic mountains and lakes. After a long time of lockdown, it’s an appealing prospect. One great way to see the sights without breaking the bank is to rent a camper(野营车).

“It’s amazing to see the smaller towns and learn about what happens on an orchard(果园)or a farm while staying in my camper, ” says Karen Nisbet, a 38-year-old New Zealander who has spent more than four years on the road.

If you’ve never taken a camper trip before, you might be wondering what it’s like. In New Zealand, you can camp at many places if you have the right vehicle. “To be able to camp better, your vehicle needs to be certified as self-contained, ” says Andy Ford, who runs a business renting campers in Auckland and Christchurch. “That basically means you have a portable toilet, and you’ve got water and food supply on board. ”

“There is something to check before booking, because if you camp outside a campground without the proper certification, you can be fined. Even with a self-contained vehicle, it doesn’t mean you can camp anywhere, ” Mr Ford adds. Many cities and popular tourist destinations like Queenstown often have restrictions, as do areas marked for conservation.

The good news is that it’s easy to find a place to stay. NZ’s Department of Conservation has a website you can use to search for camping sites around the country, or you could use an app.

If you’re camping, it’s important to make sure you deal with your waste properly. Many camp-grounds will have a dump(垃圾场)nearby for convenience, but you may need to plan ahead.

【推荐2】How to improve reading efficiency

1.Make sure of your purpose of reading.

Before you start reading, ask yourself why you are reading this book. Most people read for two main reasons: pleasure or knowledge. Being specific and clear about your reading purpose not only helps you to avoid books that you don’t need to read, it also reminds you the book is important to you.    1

2.Read only what you are attracted to.

Whether you are reading fiction or nonfiction, it's important to enjoy what you read. Your friends may recommend books that they love, but those books might not necessarily be the ones you enjoy.     2

3.Give up books that you don't enjoy.

You may have selected books that match your purpose. You may have selected books that you are attracted to. But you are reading them, there may still be some books that you won't enjoy reading.     3     Remember reading shouldn't make you feel annoyed.

4.    4

Having a reading goal helps you figure out how much reading you need to do in a week or even a day.

5.Give yourself a deadline to finish each book.

Before you read each book, ask yourself when you need to finish this book. What I find interesting is that I tend to read books that I borrow from libraries faster than the books I bought.     5     I don't need to return those books. When you don't set a deadline to finish you book, there isn't a sense of urgency. And when something isn't urgent, you tend to slow down.

【推荐3】Learn how to improve spoken English with our five quick tips.

Repeat the language!

Repeat words and sentences over and over again until you can say them really fluently.     1    The more you say it, the more it becomes fixed in your brain, and then later when you’re speaking, it’ll come out naturally.

    2

First, write out in note form the story you want to tell, and then using those notes, practise telling the story. Now this story could be something that happened to you or from a magazine. Just choose whatever you want, and practise telling it.

Memorise language!

3     You can do this by writing them out, or by speaking them out loud so that you’ll be speaking normally.

And the more you do this, the more they’ll stick in your mind.

Simultaneous (同步的) speaking!

Simultaneous speaking--it sounds difficult but it’s quite easy. And it’s something as easy as, you take an audio file(音频文件), and you listen along to it, and as you listen to it, you read it at the same time.     4     So, you’re trying to copy the intonation (语调), the pronunciation, the word stress(重音), and the sentence stress.

Practise forming questions!

Look at a sentence and see if you can change that into a question.    5    So, for example, when seeing the sentence, “She’s seen the film,” you need to change it into the question, “Has she seen the film?” And the more you do this, the more fluent and quicker you’ll get at making questions.

A.Listen to English!
B.Practise telling stories!
C.But you can read your coursebook or a magazine.
D.Try and remember as many phrases and expressions as you can.
E.Making questions is quite difficult if you haven’t been practising it.
F.For example, say “I went to the shops, I went to the shops” repeatedly.
G.And as you read it, you try to say it at the same time as the other person speaking.
