Four popular children’s books
Que Cosas Dice Mi Abuela
Spanish-speaking parents will love this fun book—which was translated into “The things my grandmother says” —in which a grandmother teaches manners (规矩) to her grandchildren and their friends using traditional Spanish-language sayings. Written in the voice of a little boy talking about his regular day, this book will draw the interest of both adults and kids.
I Like Myself!
Parents won’t mind reading the story over and over to their kids because as they pass along the message that their kids are perfect just the way they are—no matter their untidy hair, or whether they are fast or slow, their kids will learn about confidence.
Dragons Love Tacos(炸玉米饼)
While books with a deep message are great, sometimes you and your child just want to read something silly to get the laughs rolling. The New York Times bestseller, Dragons Love Tacos is a great read for kids and parents as it talks about how much dragons really love tacos, but when they eat something spicy (辛辣的) you had better watch out! The book has more words than some of the other picks on our list, so this might be fit for a preschoolers and up.

【推荐2】“John Cotter’s Losing Music is a powerful addition to the classic memoir (自传),” said Gretchen Cherington in The Millions. The first-time author has a strange disease that causes severe hearing loss, and Cotter shows well how destructive (破坏性的) the condition can be. Music first began disappearing, then the sound of the ocean. Beginning when he was 30, a ringing in his ears came and went, sometimes becoming so loud that it was painful. As his condition got worse significantly, he found how the loss of normal hearing separated him quickly from the whole world of pleasure. “The feeling is like losing life’s colour.” After detailing how he fell into complete despair, his “hard-hitting, beautiful, deep-going” book also reveals how he managed to rediscover a certain sense of satisfaction again.
“The most memorable sections in Losing Music are about Cotter’s daily struggles” said Lisa Zeidner in The Washington Post. As a poet and essayist who was working as a part-time writing professor when his hearing troubles began, he is lyrical about sounds we take for granted: rain beating windows, old-fashioned heating hissing (嘶嘶响), a cat drinking water. Still, “he reserves his most passionate writing for music,” providing poetically precise descriptions of much of the music he has loved, and connecting the loss of those experiences to the loneliness of being deaf. By 33, his hearing was gone. Hearing aids and medication helped begin a partial improvement.
“Cotter ultimately finds the best hope for a life without music: to get right with silence,” said Melissa Holbrook Pierson in The Wall Street Journal. There can be no happy ending in a book about hearing loss, but in writing it, he “turned difficulty into quiet success.” Losing Music comes closest to capturing what’s behind music “by nearly being music itself.” Even though his hearing has failed him, “evidence that Cotter’s ear is still keen for the beautiful tune of language sings from every page.”

【推荐3】A Great Ski Resort
Only 95km or about 90 minutes from Verona Airport, Folgaria is a mid-sized resort (度假胜地) in northern Italy that is famous for being in a snow pocket. The first ski lift in Italy was built here in the 1930s, and a full ski resort was created shortly after the war. Since then it has grown to cover 104km.
Folgaria is proud of its history and culture. You’re unlikely to hear English spoken here and in some bars it won’t even be Italian, but Cimbro, the ancient southern Bavarian language brought to these mountains by settlers. It’s also reflected in the food culture. Pure local mountain honey is a key element of many of the desserts. You can enjoy them when you come to ski.
In addition to bars, restaurants and a few small hotels, the community is also offering dog-sledding and mountain bikes.
Where to Eat
We offer chocolate and ice cream at La Baita del Gelato, and the formaggi misti pizza made with local cheese (€6.50) at Pizzeria Cheizel.
Where to Stay
The modern three-star Luna Bianca Hotel is one of the most popular in Folgaria, with clean rooms and good service. The ski bus stops outside the front door. Half-board doubles from €360 for three nights.
The ski resort is good for families, beginners and intermediates.
The cost is as low as €163 for an adult six-day pass. Peak price (高峰时段价格) is €209 during holiday periods. Children under 8 ski free all season.
