The year’s hottest jobs are hiring in large quantities, paying well, and providing room to grow.
Each year, U. S. draws up a list of the Best Careers based on the Labor Department’s employment estimation. And this year, we continue to base our picks for the Best Jobs of 2022 on professions that should hire abundantly over the next several years. To better help you make a smart career choice, we’ve also started ranking our selections.
4. Medical Assistant Salary Range: $20,810-$40,190
The Labor Department reports that there is no formal training required to become a medical assistant. But if you want to distinguish yourself from the more than 160, 000 persons looking to enter this profession, then training is preferred. Some specialized high schools and colleges offer medical assisting programs.
3. Chemist Salary Range: $88,090-$138,620
There are some obvious bonuses to this profession. Chemists earn one of the highest average salaries of all of our Best Jobs, and excellent job prospects is another bonus. But like many healthcare practitioners, chemists frequently work evening shifts, weekends, and some holidays.
2. Software Developer Salary Range: $54,360-$87,790
According to Bryan Cantrill, the vice president of engineering with the cloud-computing company Joyent, software developers should have one hand writing code and the other on the pulse of the evolving IT world. Advances are constant in this industry, and having a curious nature will be what makes your career take off.
1. Registered Nurse Salary Range: $44,190-$95,130
One of the first things you should determine when entering this field is what type of nursing you’d like to do. One day I asked my grandmother, “Why does no one want to hire me?” She said it was because I didn’t have any experience. How was I supposed to have experience when I’d never had a job before? Even McDonald’s wouldn’t hire me. I applied there so many times. It was a shame.
The Gap was one of the hardest places to apply. Once you filled out an application, the managers would interview you right on the spot. It made me so nervous that I couldn’t talk right. The first question they asked was, “Why do you want to work for the Gap?” Your mind was telling you to say, “For the money.” But you didn’t want to say that because you didn’t want to make yourself sound greedy, even if it’s the truth. So I said, “Because I’m familiar with what the company does, which is selling clothes.”
However, not for long there was another question that always seemed to get me every time, “What can you bring to this company?” I didn’t know, maybe more customers? By the time I got ready to pick it up, I heard them say, “If we don’t contact you in 24 hours, you don’t get the job.”
But if I was asked that question now, I would say, “I’m a hard worker and a very reliable person, and with these kinds of abilities I cannot only do a good job, but I can influence other employees to do so too.”
Despite all the bad luck I seemed to have, I didn’t give up. Eventually, I finally found a summer job.

Right now, the B-Society is fighting hard for businesses to join its B-certification (证明) list. Companies that are “B-certified” basically give their employees the opportunity to come in when they want. In some companies, employees arrive at any time up to 3:30 pm --- each to their own rhythm (节奏).
And it is not just businesses that are benefiting from this. Teenagers who can’t get out of bed in the morning, and parents who never quite get the kids to school on time, can now benefit from B-classes. From next year, a school in Copenhagen will offer classes which start later in the day (at 10 instead of eight). And even the government seems to like the idea.
The B-Society was founded by Camilla Kring, a professor from the University of Copenhagen. On her website, she says, “When B-people’s work rhythms are considered at the work place, their productivity (生产力) and quality of life is increased, which can increase productivity for the entire organization.”
She adds that, “B-Society will create a new daily rhythm in schools and other institutions (机构) as an alternative to the current rhythm of ‘early at work and early at home’. We are working for the establishment of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools as well as universities that open between 10 am and 8 pm.”
Would you like to work for a B-certified company?
1. According to the text, who belong to the B-Society?
A.Late risers. | B.Businessmen. |

One day, she was talking to one of the truck drivers at the supermarket, and she got the idea to drive a truck herself. She went home and told her parents (my grandparents!), and they thought it was a good idea.
Nancy’s journeys are different every day, and she goes to every part of the country. She enjoys the driving, but she says that one day, she would like to get a job with a different company(公司) so that she can drive to more places.
Nancy says she likes being out on the road, seeing new towns all the time, but the best thing about driving trucks for her is talking to everyone she sees during her working day. She also says the trucks are comfortable, so she doesn't mind sleeping in them. For her, they are her home on wheels!

Cultural Breaks by Brian Aldiss Reviewed by Paul Kincaid Brian Aldiss is an amazing and frustrating writer. When he is on song, his style is forceful, disturbing and delectable. But he is a restless writer. He came into his own in the enthusiastic and experimental atmosphere of the New Wave, and he has been driven to try the new and the different ever since. That he is still experimenting now, 50years after his first appearance, is a measure of a man who has never been prepared to settle back on his laurels.
The Secrets of Jin-Shei by Alma Alexander Reviewed by Donna McMahon With so many fantasy novels using European-derived settings and mythology, ancient China makes a refreshing change. The landscape is tempting and yet familiar enough to feel very real, and the author uses magic sparingly, in ways appropriate to her society. This and the complex detail put into the backdrop makes the novel feel very much like historical fiction.
