It was a Saturday afternoon.I was having lunch when Dad told me to get ready. I became unhappy.I don’t like Saturdays! Even though it’ s a holiday for most children,it is not for me because I need to go to football club.

Many kids love sports, but I am not one of them.I prefer to stay at home and read. I don’t like running. so in a team am a bad player. The coach is tired of me and my teammates sometimes think I’ m useless.

I have no idea how to play football.Usually ,after practice my teammates would ask me to stay out of the game and I would just nod.

Last Thursday, the coach told us that we would be competing with some other team in a month and many people would come to see the game. Our opponents(对手)were the last winner and I froze(呆住)at the thought of the embarrassment()I would face if the team lost because of me.

So I decided to practice hard for the match and I went to practice every single day.

After one month, when the game day came my teammates were reluctant(不愿意的)to take me in the team, and I also wished to stay away from the ground as well. But as luck would have it they were short of one player and had no choice but to take me in the team.

Our team was named the Big Blues. There was a great cheer on our arrival in the field.I got very nervous. The game started and within two minutes, I got a blue card. By the time I was allowed back the score was two goals for each team and the next goal would decide the winning team.

I was about nine the first time I got on a board. Something inside of me connected to surfing unlike any other sport. I had played a bunch of different sports, like baseball, soccer and hockey, but surfing became my true life interest.

By the time I was twelve, I began to compete in surfing. Before long, I was rated number one in the Juniors level of the Pacific Surf Series. I was featured in surfing articles and magazines, and companies began sponsoring me.

Things were really looking up. My lifelong dream of becoming a professional surfer was finally coming to a reality. Then came the day when my life changed forever.

On that day, I watched a little bit of a surf movie to prepare for my surf. I was excited; the waves were going to be so good. When I pulled up to the beach at Zuma, the waves looked great. Then I caught this one perfect south swell peak.

The wave hit me in my back so fast that I didn’t have time to put my hands up. I hit my head on a sandbar beneath the surface of the water. My whole body went numb (麻木), then I was floating face down — unable to move. When the next wave flipped (翻转) me over, I yelled for help. At first nobody came to help me, then finally my best friend, Brad, came over to me. I told him, “You gotta keep my head out of the water or I’m gonna drown!”

Finally, Brad was able to get me out of the water and onto the beach. I knew I was paralyzed (瘫痪). As I lay on my back, my dreams of becoming a pro surfer flashed in front of my eyes. What was going to happen to me? What kind of a life would I have if I was paralyzed forever? This can’t happen to me! Guess what? It did.

Many of us come across certain situations that make us laugh in the future. The similar thing happened to me on 12, July 2010. It was rainy season. My parents needed to go to the nearby city to attend a marriage ceremony. They decided to keep me at home because I too should understand housekeeping in the absence of parents. I agreed on their thought with full confidence. This incident made me completely alone at home. Therefore, I got complete freedom to enjoy the cartoon shows on TV and many other fun activities. I looked outside the window of my house. It was raining heavily. Suddenly the electricity supply went off.

I was a little scared but the words of my parents encouraged me to face the situation. Unexpectedly, I heard someone knocking at the door of my house. I went near to the door and stole a look through it. No one was there! Then I opened the door to make sure.

I have the habit of watching horror movies. This incident created the thoughts of ghosts and evils in my mind. I felt that a ghost might be willing to enter my house. I was completely shocked. I lit the candles in my room. Again, I heard the knocking sound. But this time, I didn’t dare to open the door. Instead, I preferred lying on the bed and wrapping myself with blankets.

The electricity supply started after almost one hour. I speedily turned the TV on and played devotional songs. I switched on the lights of all rooms. I am a curious person who loves science. My curiosity brought me to check out the incident. So I went near to the door and opened it.

One year, I was burn by hot water, which left me with some permanent, ugly scars on my arms. Growing up, I tried to hide those scars. Even in the hot summer, I’d wear shirts that had long sleeves which could cover all my scars. I feared being laughed at by other kids, although many loved me because I was nice and kind. I saw myself as different.

At 12 years old, I went to junior high school. On the first day of school, I found that we had swimming class every week and we were required to change into swimsuits in the open locker room before the class. This meant I would have to undress before the other girls. They would see my scars.

“Would you feel better if I talked to your teacher to see whether you could change your clothes after the other girls are gone?” my mother asked. “Yeah,” I said quietly. “I’m afraid they’ll laugh at me.”

My mother looked at me. Even though she may have been hurting for me inside, she didn’t let me see it. The next day, my mother met with my teacher and they worked out a solution: I would wait until the other girls got dressed and went to the class, and then I would put on my swimsuit and be allowed to be late. I was relieved.

But that night as I lay in bed, I felt like a coward (胆小鬼). I didn’t want to be different and to be picked on because I was allowed to do things the other girls didn’t get to do. It was then that I knew what I had to do.

The next morning, as I got ready for school, I told my mother, “I think I might go ahead and put on my swimsuit like everyone else. I don’t want to be different.” Surprised, she hugged me and said, “I’m proud of you. But Stacie, if you change your mind, I’ll support you.”

That day, I felt nervous because I knew that I was going to change my clothes in the presence of other girls for the first time.
