8: 45 AM.
Hi ladies. We have a new client that just called this morning. Are either of you free to take the job?
Athena
8: 46 AM.
What's the location of the job? And what is the client expecting?
Paula
8: 47 AM.
Mrs. Hunter lives at the intersection of Maple Street and Givers Rd. She has a fairly large 3500 square foot house, and would like someone to come for 5— 6 hours each week, preferably on a Monday, to clean it.
Athena
8: 48 AM.
Sorry, that's too far for me to go. And I already have a regular client in the afternoons on Mondays.
Julie
8: 49 AM.
I can probably do it. I don't have any clients on Mondays at the moment.
Athena
8: 50 AM.
Make sure you negotiate the hours with her. Or let her know how much you can physically clean in 5. 6 hours.
Julie
8: 51 AM
I think it'd be fine. I'm sure she's not expecting one person to clean the entire house in those hours.
Paula
8: 52 AM
I can call her back to get some more details. It's always better to make sure both parties have the same expectations.
Julie
8: 53 AM
OK. Both of you have way more experience than me so I'll definitely listen to your advice.
Paula
8: 54 AM
Julie, I'll let you know when I've talked to her. You might have to call her yourself later, too.

Professor Laura Scholes and Dr Sarah McDonald surveyed 332 Year 3 students from 14 Australian schools. They found that the top professions for boys included sports and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) related jobs, while girls, on the other hand, wanted to be teachers or nurses.
Professor Scholes said the influence of gender stereotypes (刻板印象) on such choices begins in early childhood. “Bright pink toys for girls and blue toys for boys are sold on store shelves around the world. ” she said, “In the boys’ section, you’ll find science, construction and warfare toys — perhaps a robot or a telescope. In the girls’ section, you’ll see toys related to cleaning, dolls, kitchens, makeup, jewellery and crafts. ”
“This results in lower numbers of girls taking STEM subjects at school. In turn, this means fewer women are going to work in the sciences. ” Professor Scholes’s comments came as women make up only 2 percent of the STEM workforce, with the biggest gap in the highest-paid jobs of computer science and engineering.
In Australia, some brands (品牌) are no longer targeting boys or girls with their toys. Danish toy giant Lego last week announced that they would remove gender stereotypes from their toys, after a global study found that 71 percent of boys feared being made fun of for playing with toys marketed at girls. Lego said its products were mainly used by boys, but it promised to work to remove gender preference from its toys and instead market them for both genders.

He has always wanted to travel. “I guess I am a really restless spirit. I like traveling, so when the chance came, I jumped at it,” he says.
The chance came in the form of a newspaper advertisement for work on cruise ships(游船). At the time Estrella was the housekeeping manager at a Melbourne hotel. He applied and, after two interviews, a medical check and police clearance, the job was his.
Estrella is responsible(负责的)for the cleanliness of the ship, making sure that 160 crew work properly. “I enjoy it because there is no other work-you wake up each day in a different place and a different culture. It’s exciting when you go to the next country and you don’t understand the language,” he says.
Estrella likes being busy and getting to know people from all over the world. The 1,000 crew come from 94 countries, and Estrella has learnt Spanish and a little Croatian.
But there is a downside. “You cannot get really drunk...because you have safety responsibilities to yourself and others,” he says. “You don’t really think about home. You start to think about home only when you get closer to your vacation and wonder what you’ll be doing.”
Life on the ship is anything but cruising. Estrella and his fellows work at least 10 hours a day, seven days a week. He warns the job is not for everybody. “You have to love being busy and be prepared to work every day-and to give up drinking too much alcohol.” In his spare time, if the ship sails into a port, Estrella explores it, otherwise he works out in the crew’s gym, goes on the internet or calls home.
