【推荐1】Starting High School

What is high school really like? Is there more work? More stress?

1     Lots of other freshmen are feeling the same way you are. With that in mind, here are a few topics that commonly worry incoming freshmen and some things you might want to know about.

Starting Out at a New School

You may not know a lot of people when you start high school. How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces?   Most high schools hold a freshman orientation(新生人学教育) before school actually starts. These are helpful not only because you learn your way around the building and get to meet some of your teachers, but you also get to meet fellow freshmen.     2

Learning Inside the Classroom

How about the workload (工作量) in high school -- is it a lot harder?     3    The work in high school builds on what you learned in middle school, giving you a more advanced knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that it's a bit more challenging. But these challenges can make you feel less bored with the usual life -- it feels great when you've mastered something really hard. Maybe you'll find a new interest in biology or discover a love for literature.

If you ever find your work too heavy, you can turn to teachers for extra help.

Extra-curricular Activities

High school also has more extra-curriculars than middle school did, such as clubs, music and theater groups, student government, and sports teams.     4

These activities may take place before or after school, or during free periods or study halls. Because of this, it helps to improve your time management skills in your first year.     5     Everybody needs some downtime(自由支配时间).

A.It's perfectly OK if you're nervous at first.
B.If you're having thoughts like these, you're not alone.
C.Talking with your classmates can help develop new friendships.
D.This is a fantastic time to explore your interests and try new things.
E.High school is a time to achieve independence and responsibility.
F.Again, this is something your classmates are probably worried about, too.
G.Extra-curricular activities are great, but leaving free time for yourself is recommended.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了情绪在我们的生活中的重要性,以及要以恰当的方法控制情绪。

【推荐2】Have you ever wondered about the significance of emotions in our life? Emotions play a critical part in our lives.     1     Let me give you an example here: When you are with your loved ones, your mood changes instantly right? If they feel happy then you feel happy, and if they feel angry/sad then so do you. Starting to get what I was talking about in the beginning? Should you be feeling like that? In certain situations, yes, but every time, no!

You may find it very hard to believe but it is not our responsibility to bear other people’s feelings, this is something that they have to do themselves.     2     Apart from this, we must never be controlled by our own feelings. Let me give you an example here. In the middle of a fight between your spouse or partner, they will say, “You really hurt my feelings”. Sometimes, you might even say: “You are making me angry”. What does this imply?     3     Whenever this happens, you start blaming yourself, especially for the emotions that others are feeling. This is known as emotional reflection. You must learn to control this.     4

What should be your course of action here? It might seem rude when I say this but you really need to hear it. You are not responsible for how others feel!     5     Al l in all, we must learn to be emotionally accountable and mature, doing so will result in a better and happier life.

A.Therefore embrace your emotions as a part of yourself.
B.They are infectious unless you know how to control them.
C.So, it’s a must for us to learn to control our feelings.
D.You have conveyed your feelings in a very understandable manner.
E.This goes sideways, others are also not accountable for how you feel.
F.It means that you have allowed the other person to emotionally control you.
G.Otherwise, it will create co-dependency in relationships which is very harmful.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要向家长介绍了一些好的方法以帮助孩子能够取得成功。

【推荐3】As a parent, you want your kids to do their best in school. You already know plenty of sleep, healthy food and some school supplies are necessary. However, what else do children need to be successful without a professional homework helper?     1

Avoid delaying tasks.

One mistake students usually make is postponing unpleasant work and deliberately looking for distraction. Teach your children that the workload isn't going to get smaller if they wait longer.     2

Break projects down.

Many children get stressed out when they have big assignments due.     3     Often people get frightened by the difficulty of tasks without understanding that the large task is actually just made up of smaller ones. Another solution is to use a project proposal to help keep them on track with homework and projects.

    4

There are a growing number of online references and homework resources. Not only will your children be better prepared for class the next day, but they’ll also learn a valuable lesson about how to research and find information online. From them you can also find ideas for educational activities that you can do with your children.

Keep it ordered.

5     Hence, have your kids keep ahead of their homework with an organized system. For example, they could use a scheduling application like Asana or Trello to manage projects with arranged dates, or they might stick to an old-fashioned pen and a paper planner. See what works best for them and go from there.

A.Get help online.
B.Focus on homework.
C.Online learning is becoming more and more popular.
D.Teach them to break larger projects into smaller pieces.
E.Organization is the key to success, because it can maximize efficiency.
F.Here are some tips from professionals for helping your children with it.
G.Instead, it will only become larger and seem more difficult to get started.
