1】Every time we move to a new place, we’re faced with the challenge of making new friends. Connecting with a community is important to your sense of belonging, but it may take three to six months to finally make new friends, or even longer.     1    .

Get the word out

Tell your friends, family and co-workers that you’re moving and looking to meet new people. Make sure to communicate what kind of connections you’re looking for, like someone to show you around town. Use this time to do some research. Look up if your favourite coffee shop has branches in your new neighborhood.     2    . These groups, like volunteer organizations, can offer you a sense of familiarity.

Add more routine (惯例) to your day

Setting time aside for activities, communities or places you love can help you feel more at home. Do you go on a run every morning? Try running at the same park for a week. Or go back to that restaurant around the block at least once a month.     3     . By doing the same things, you’re seeing the same faces and you will become less shy to ask a question because you see them all the time.

Explore interest groups

4     . Nowadays, you can find most of them online — for food, sports, or religion, just to name a few. You could also use your move as an opportunity to try things that you’ve been eager to try for years. That way, you feel connected to the city with the good memory of you excitedly exploring something new.

    5

You don’t have to push yourself to make friends within weeks. Try to focus on being connected in the moment. When you’re new in town, you may feel shy or even frightened to share your true self. But you’ll find your people more quickly if you devote yourself into the things that you are interested. Laying that up is one way to really attract people with same interests, and soon you will find yourself connected.

A.Reconnect with old friends
B.Focus on the connection, not the friendship
C.And here are some tips on making friends anywhere we go.
D.You can also be more intentional about making new connections.
E.There’s also a good chance you’ll find similar community groups.
F.Group settings like interest are also helpful for meeting new people.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了什么时候以及如何在家里种植植物的种子。

【推荐2】When to Start Growing Seed (种子) Indoors for Your Garden

February marks the halfway point of winter in the northern part of the world. With spring arriving soon, many people are dreaming of working in their gardens on warm, sunny days.     1     They can do this by growing plants from seed inside their home.

It is important to know when to start growing your seed indoors. The answer depends on where you live. Gardeners use the average last cold date in their area to help them know when to begin growing seed.

2     If you start too soon, plants will likely grow weak and struggle to do well. If you start too late, your harvest will be put off.

While you are waiting, find and prepare your growing containers. You can use things like recycled egg containers. Each container should have a hole in the bottom for water to flow through.

Fill each container with a clean, wet, soilless seed-starting mix. Place one to four seeds in each container, depending on the seed kind and size. Water the seeds as needed to keep the mix from drying out. Cover the seed containers tightly.     3

When seedlings (幼苗) first appear, remove the covering and put containers by a sunny window. You can also put them under special lighting devices (设备) called grow lamps for 14 hours a day.     4     Ordinary ones will work.

If several seedlings come up in one container, cut the weakest at the soil line using small scissors.     5     If you let more than one seedling remain, the roots may become mixed together. The young plants might no survive.

A.Costly lights are not necessary.
B.Your plants will become stronger as a result.
C.Put them in a warm place without direct sunlight.
D.The aim is to keep only one strong-looking plant.
E.Some gardeners like to start the growing season early.
F.After finding your start date, it is important to respect it.
G.Leave them there for one hour and then bring them back inside.

【推荐3】How to Break the Anxiety Cycle

People who suffer from anxiety tend to be stuck in an ongoing loop of avoidance. It’s the classic dynamic of anxiety:     1    , our symptoms tend to increase, and in turn this drives the anxiety up and makes the things we’re afraid of scarier. Here are some techniques on how to slowly overcome this mental health challenge.     2    . Words have power. For example, saying “I am panicked about going to this party tonight” will put you in a more negative state of mind compared to saying “I’d prefer if I didn’t have to go to this party.” Start by putting your words to the positive and to a point where you still feel it resonates(共鸣).

Let go of perfectionism. People with social anxiety feel as if they are walking on a social tightrope.     3    . We have unrealistic high standards where we think we must be cool, positive, and witty while carrying the entire conversation—it’s too much. And keep in mind that you are not expected to be someone you’re not in order to get people to like you.

Make small gestures. Instead of “jumping off a cliff” and walking straight into a situation that makes you anxious, start becoming more expressive in situations that you feel are less threatening.

4    , say good morning to a neighbor you rarely speak with, or tell your hairstylist the exact look you’ re going for instead of agreeing with their suggestion.

Shift your awareness. Our attention is like a spotlight and we choose where to point it. Those with social anxiety tend to point that spotlight inward and state the commentary of our inner critic.

    5    .

A.Choose your words carefully
B.Pay attention to your health condition
C.For example, ask a stranger for directions
D.When we avoid the things we’re afraid of
E.If the things reduce feelings of social anxiety
F.It’s this idea that we need to perform perfectly
G.Focus on what’s happening around you, not inside you
