How do I get to know a person’s character?

If you are trying to assess a person’s character, make sure you do not rely heavily on factors that can be misleading.     1    . Also, pay attention to his attitude to distinguish how it impacts his life.

Whether or not a person is honest says a lot about his character. Observe the person’s conversations and try to determine how often, if at all, he tells lies. To some degree, the types of lies he may tell and his motives for doing so matter.     2    .

The level of commitment a person displays indicates the type of character he has. “Commitment” often causes people to instantly think of intimate (亲密的) relationships.     3    . It is important, however, to remember that there are many other things in life that may require commitment and the level that is displayed in these instances also says a lot about a person.

4    . This includes both people he knows and people he does not know. It may be difficult to actually see how he treats different types of people if you only encounter him in a single environment. It is often possible, however, to get some idea of his manner of interaction through conversation.

When you are trying to assess someone’s character, remember that it consists of qualities and habits that form his identity.     5    . While these things may provide some insight into a person’s personality, they are often weaker indicators of a person’s character than other factors.

A.This includes factors such as manner of dress or the actions of family members.
B.You can tell a lot about a person’s character by observing how he treats other people.
C.It also counts whether or not he thinks truthfulness is an important quality.
D.Instead, observe the individual’s ability to tell the truth and to commit.
E.Some people generally have a negative view while others may try to be positive even in difficult situations.
F.Whether a person can choose one partner and respect the vows (誓言) and agreements made between them is usually an indication.
G.Attitude can affect many aspects of a person’s life, including how hard he works and his ability to be supportive of others.

【推荐2】You learn, connect with friends and play games online. Just as you look both ways before crossing the street, be sure you are using the Internet more safely. These tips, based on the latest research, will help you stay fun and safe online.

Be your own person. Don’t let friends or strangers pressure you to be someone you aren’t.     1     You may be Internet smart, but people and relationships change, and unexpected stuff can happen on the Internet.

Be nice online.     2     People who are annoying and aggressive online are at greater risk of being bullied (欺凌) themselves. If someone is mean to you, try not to react. Talk to a trusted adult or friend who can help. Use privacy tools to block the meanies.

Passwords are private. Don’t share your password even with friends.     3     One trick: Create a sentence like “I graduated from King School in 15” for the password “IgfKSil5”

4     It may be fun to check out new people for friendship or romance. But be aware that, while some people are nice, others act nice because they’re trying to get something. Praising or supportive messages may be more about controlling than friendship or romance.

Avoid in-person meetings. The only way someone can physically harm you is if you’re both in the same location, so-to be 100% safe-don’t meet them in person. If you really must get together with someone you “met” online, don’t go alone. Have the meeting in a public place.     5

A.And know your limits.
B.Read between the “lines”.
C.Think about what you post.
D.And bring some friends along.
E.Don’t think that others have better lives than you do.
F.Pick one you can remember but no one else can guess.
G.Or at least treat people the way you’d want to be treated.

【推荐3】As university doors opened in September for a new year, an estimated six million people across the world took to the streets in a historic week of climate action. The power of this youth-led campaign reflected the urgency for action on the environment. So what now?     1    Here are some ideas about how you can be sustainable as a student.

What you put on your plate matters: nearly a quarter of all greenhouse gases come from agriculture, and most of those are from meat and dairy. Meat and dairy consumption results in excessive (过度的) land use, industrial emissions, methane, water use and deforestation.     2     A meat-free diet has been recommended as the single-biggest way an individual can reduce their effect on the planet.

Forget fast fashion: keeping your clothes for as long as possible has much more than just monetary value. In the UK, clothing has the fourth-largest environmental effect after housing, transport and food.     3

For some freshers, this will be your first time living alone, which means doing your own washing, cooking and cleaning.     4     Wash your clothes at a lower temperature, and choose a bamboo toothbrush or more eco-friendly sanitary (卫生的) products. When shopping, see if there's a zero-waste shop nearby, where all products are free from plastic packaging. Just turn up with your own container. If you're planning a weekend away with new friends, try to travel by train or bus.

5     But campaigning is important too. University campuses can be the perfect place for this. If you don't know where and how to start, see if there are any societies at your university like Student Climate Network. Students using fossil fuels in 76 universities have now committed to it.

A.So recycle your clothes or mend them.
B.Meat consumption delays industrial development.
C.And clothing has a bigger impact on environment than food.
D.Cutting out meat is an easy way to reduce your carbon footprint.
E.There are simple ways you can change your habits to live more sustainably.
F.Individual actions matter, as they provide an alternative to how we can live.
G.For freshers starting a new chapter at university, deciding how to live your life is vital.
