【推荐1】The Joys of College

Often, we college students complain endlessly about all of the things we hate about college. And sure, college is really stressful and there are some aspects I don’t like.     1

The first thing I truly enjoy about being a college student is that I get to take classes that actually interest me.     2     In college, learning doesn’t feel like a chore (苦差事) to me any more because I actually get to design my schedule to my interests.

The community at the university is also very important to me. We are all suffering here but we are all suffering together.     3     I know I can complain to any fellow college student about the stress my assignments are causing and they will always understand.

4     The campus parties, holiday markets, and concerts give us something to look forward to as we struggle our way through our classes. And a variety of club activities—like the Campus Times—make college life all the more exciting.

The university presents us with so many unique opportunities as well.   We are encouraged to study abroad, which allows students to experience student life in another country and dive into other cultures in the process.     5     Students maybe even land a job prior to graduation.

So although there are a lot of negatives of college—and I mean a lot—there are also a lot of positives. I know that when I graduate, I’m going to miss being a college student.

A.After all, college can be very demanding.
B.The fun activities and clubs are also a plus.
C.But for once, I’d like to focus on the positives.
D.Here, there are so many different fields to study.
E.Additionally, being a trainee is a great way to get experience.
F.The college experience can get bearable due to this community.
G.It isn’t like high school where you’re required to take the same classes.

【推荐2】Boeing said Wednesday that it was entering the space tourism business, an announcement that could bolster(增强)the Obama administration’s efforts to transform the National Aeronautics and Space Administration into an agency that focuses less on building rockets and more on nurturing a commercial space industry.

The flights, which could begin as early as 2015, would most likely launch from Cape Canaveral in Florida to the International Space Station. The Obama administration has proposed turning over to private companies the business of taking NASA astronauts to orbit, and Boeing and Bigelow Aerospace of Las Vegas won an $18 million contract this year for preliminary (初步的)development and testing of a capsule that could carry seven passengers.

Current NASA plans call for four space station crew members to go up at a time, which would leave up to three seats available for space tourists. The flights would be the first to give nonprofessional astronauts the chance to go into orbit aboard a spacecraft launched from the United States. Seven earlier space tourists have made visits to the space station, riding in Russian Soyuz capsules.

“We’re ready now to start talking to possible customers,” said Eric C. Anderson, co-founder and chairman of Space Adventures, the space tourism company based in Virginia that would market the seats for Boeing.

Boeing and Space Adventures have not set a price, although Mr. Anderson said it would be competitive with the Soyuz flights, which Space Adventures arranged with the Russian Space Agency. Guy Laliberté, founder of Cirque du Soleil, paid about $40 million for a Soyuz ride and an eight-day stay at the space station last year. But the possibilities that anyone buying a ticket will get to space on an American vehicle depend on discussions in Congress about the future of NASA.

1. Which of the following is most probably a private travel company?
A.Boeing.B.Space Adventure.
C.NASA.D.Russian Space Agency.
2. How many people can be carried along on a capsule to the space station?
A.3.B.4.C.7.D.11.
3. What can be inferred from the passage?
A.The American space tourism company is located in Virginia.
B.Russia has already taken lead in working on the space tourism business.
C.NASA has decided to focus less on building rockets because of the financial crisis.
D.In 2015, America would be the first country in the world to run the space tourism business.
4. What’s the best title of the passage?
A.Taking NASA Astronauts to Orbit.B.Living in the Space Station Space.
C.Ticket Price under Discussion.D.Boeing Could Fly You to Orbit by 2015.

【推荐3】I wish there would be a way to describe China in simple terms but that’s impossible. For the most part Chinese people are friendly, easy-going and optimistic. They are curious and unusually patient and they are also the hardest-working people I have ever met.

In China, family is everything. In my English classes when the students were asked what they would do if they only had a few hours to live, most students told me how they would spend their last few hours with their families and parents. Many times the subjects in the classes center on families and friends. I teach many students a year, talking to them freely.

The cost of living here is very low compared with that of the US. The city of Xiang Fan I live in isn’t large and I live better. Non-imported(非出口的) foods are very cheap, so are clothing and articles of everyday use. The cost of public transportation is very low, too. Chinese value education. However, it is reported that many children can’t afford the expenses of schooling and are forced to leave school in some poor area in China. But they organized Project Hope many years age. It creates conditions for the poor children to go back to school. In my opinion, Project Hope is of great importance to the development of the rural education.

When we read news of China in the west, rarely, if ever, will we see anything mentioned of the positive changes China has gone through. While it is true that economic miracles have not reached many areas of China, but we also have the same problems.

When I am asked which country I consider better, China or the US, my answer has always been the same, “We are not worse or better than each other, we are only different.”

1. What does the author think of Chinese people?
A.He thinks most Chinese people hardly work
B.He praises most Chinese people a lot
C.He thinks most Chinese people are proud
D.He dislikes most Chinese people
2. What are not cheap in China in the author’s opinion?
A.Clothes and shoes made in ChinaB.Public transportation tickets
C.Imported foodsD.Local foods
3. We can infer from the passage that the author thinks     .
A.the progress of China is seldom reported in the US
B.China’s economic miracles have appeared everywhere
C.the westerners have got to know China well
D.the education in rural areas is never cared about in China
