Are you stuck in a job you don’t like? Many people hold ideas about jobs and careers that are holding them back. Let’s see the truth behind some career myths.

ACV (简历) is the only way to get a job.

To tell the truth, many employers don’t like or actually read CVs. Some employers would prefer to judge a person after a face-to-face meeting, or give them some part-time work first to see what they are truly like in the workplace.

Having an up-to-date CV is important when applying for jobs advertised in the paper, from larger organizations, or when you want to leave some information about yourself for the employers.

I have to make my decision now and stick to it.

There is a great saying: “Life is a journey not a destination.” Journeys are full of options. You make and change your decisions all the time based on new experiences and information.

Yes, you do have to make decisions, but you do not have to be limited by those career decisions by sticking to them. What’s more important is having a go and exploring new things.

I can’t get into the work I like because there are too few opportunities.

I have no doubt getting into work that you really want to do can be challenging. But I do also believe opportunities exist in most career areas because employment needs change all the time. One strategy I’d suggest if you can’t get your dream job is to go after what you want and grab any opportunity that moves you toward your dream job.

It’s the school’s responsibility to talk about careers and work.

Schools do have a part to play in providing career advice for students, but others also have a responsibility. I would suggest that a student-parent-school partnership approach is a far better way of looking at this. A lot of information is available on the internet, in the newspapers, through relatives and friends.

A.tell people how to get a good job

C.correct some wrong ideas about looking for jobs
D.introduce right attitudes towards work
2. According to the passage, when you are looking for jobs a CV __________.
A.is the most important thing
B.is no longer popular
C.should be given face to face
D.should contain your latest information
3. We can learn from the last paragraph that _________.
A.students should use as many resources as possible when looking for a job
B.the school is the main source of career advice to students
C.students should rely on relatives and friends to find a good job
D.information on the Internet is not necessarily true

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了学习新语言的三个简单有效的的语言学习方法。

【推荐2】The following are three simple language-learning exercises you can add to your daily plan.    1    Learning a language doesn’t happen overnight. So even short, simple exercises are an important step to help you explore a language more deeply.

Choose a word of the day. The idea of a word of the day as a language-learning exercise is a little out of date. It brings to mind the kind of person who would use a word in a sentence many times a day.    2

Collect and explore synonyms (近义词).When you’re learning a new language, it’s important to pay attention to those words having a similar meaning but used in different ways.    3    A good dictionary will give you some tips about the synonyms, but the best way to learn how to use similar words is to listen to other speakers and take note.

4    This exercise can work in either direction. If you see or hear something in the language you’re learning, make sure to try to bring it into the language you’re using.    5    Actually write out these translations so as to check them against another translation.

A.Translate what you see and hear around you.
B.Find the reasons behind patterns you observe.
C.There’s another benefit that makes it important.
D.You can adapt them in any way that works best for you.
E.But focusing on just one word a day can really be very useful.
F.And surely any text you see in your native language can be translated.
G.For example, “big” and “vast” are synonyms, but you wouldn’t talk about a “vast dog.”

【推荐3】Research shows that playful teasing between parents and their children can be a way to strengthen relationships, bring up difficult topics, and just have fun.     1     Carol Bishop says, “You need to recognize if they are enjoying it,” There are also rules about what is okay and not okay to tease your child about.     2     Instead, tease kids about safe topics, like a messy room, or things that can be easily changed.

Teasing should also be a two-way street.     3     If they go too far making fun of you, be sure not to blow up. Instead, help them to learn boundaries and what may hurt others.

Teasing about a disappointing grade should only be used as a gentle reminder to study or do homework. It shouldn't be focused on the ability because that could make the situation worse. It’s not wrong to say to your child, “I'm disappointed that you got a C.”    4     You need to examine if there is a learning disability or maybe they are depressed or being bullied.

From monsters under the bed to darkness and noises, fears that may seem silly to an adult may be very real to a child.     5     In fact, it could make them worse. Teasing a child who is frightened about something is not a way for them to expand their horizon—you need to make them feel secure.

A.Kids often feel hurt when teased by others.
B.Topics like appearance and weight are prohibited.
C.You have to be willing to let your child tease you about things.
D.But then you must work with them to figure out the cause.
E.But parents need to recognize when teasing becomes hurtful.
F.Laughing or teasing won't help them overcome their fears.
G.Teasing a child about sports performance can cause a child to quit the sport.
