Passage 1

As one of China's most popular and widely known legends, the Story of Monkey King is set to return to screens with 3D effects. It may feature many of the same leading actors from the earliest   1986 TV series Journey to the West.According to the producer, viewers can enjoy the 3D cinematic experience at home simply with a pair of special 3D glasses, which can be got easily in the market. The TV drama, with a total investment of 150 million yuan, will be aired on Sichuan TV. Almost 90 million yuan has been put into 3D effects with each 45minute episode containing eight minutes of 3D. “The 3D effects not only cost us a lot of money but also a lot of time,” director Kan Weiping said. “We had to put off its broadcasting time, which was set at first this summer.”

Passage 2

The Solar Roadway is an intelligent road that provides clean renewable energy using power from the sun, while providing safer driving conditions along with power. American inventors of the Solar Road said that it will power itself, and reduce the country's carbon marks. Many panels are fixed on   the Solar Road. The top of the Solar Road panels is made of glass and the inventors are working together with top glass researchers to develop superstrong glass that would offer vehicles pulling power they need. The Solar Roadway creates and carries clean renewable electricity and, therefore, electric vehicles can be recharged at any rest stop,or at any business that uses solar road panels in their parking lots. Such parking lots will be safer at night with the light provided by LED within the road panels. The inventors say their solar roadway has many applications and advantages from main roads to driveways, parking lots, bike paths and runways.

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章介绍了如何利用作物秸秆和其他垃圾来制造燃料,并介绍了这种燃料的优缺点以及市场前景。

【推荐1】The future in energy production is here. And some of the materials used to supply the energy may surprise you! Companies have developed a way to turn plant wastes and other garbage into fuel. It has been called one of the most promising technologies in energy. And the process is expected to become more common this year.

The American-based company Fiberight is taking the lead in this new form of energy production. Truck loads of garbage are sent to Fiberight’s test plant in southern Virginia. Old vegetables, cardboard boxes and other wastes become something much more valuable through the work done at the factory. 50% of this material is going to be processed for the change of biofuel such as ethanol(乙醇).

Ethanol makes up about 10 percent of America’s fuel supply. Nearly all of it comes from corn, the food known as maize in some countries. Critics say this creates competition between food and fuel, and raises food prices. Environmentalists say farmers are using more land to plant corn crops. They also say farmers are using more fertilizers and products for killing insects. They say this creates more pollution.

This year, several other fuel production plants are expected to start making ethanol from the cellulose(纤维素) in corn stalks, wheat straw and other plant materials. However, making cellulosic ethanol turned out to be harder than expected. We know how to do that in a lab. The main problem is doing that in a continuous way, cost-effectively on a large scale. Besides, our cars may limit how much the industry can grow. Even if we can begin to produce this cost-effectively, we need to be able to consume it as well. Only a few models of automobiles can operate on high-ethanol fuel. Without more of them, there is only so much gas from garbage that will sell.

1. What is the advantage of this energy production?
A.Using advanced technology.
B.Producing energy in large quantities.
C.Making energy from some waste.
D.Making energy easily and cheaply
2. Half of the waste in Fiberight can be used to make_______.
A.oilB.electricityC.gasD.biofuel
3. What's the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A.The need of growing corn for ethanol.
B.The amount of ethanol needed in America.
C.The disadvantages of ethanol made from corn
D.Pollution caused by making ethanol from corn.
4. What do we know about the new energy production from the last paragraph?
A.It is impossible to make this energy on a large scale.
B.It is difficult to produce this energy out of laboratory.
C.Few fuel production plants are interested in making it.
D.There is a long way to go before it is widely produced.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了Porrima是一艘以环境研究为中心的概念船,旨在展示可持续技术如何彻底改变航运业。

【推荐2】For his first few days at sea on the MS Porrima, Gunter Pauli was amazed by the silence aboard his solar-powered ship.

Using limited resources effectively is the central philosophy behind the Porrima, a concept boat centered on environmental research, which aims to show how sustainable (可持续的) technology could completely change the shipping industry.

Sea transport drives over 80% of global trade, but it has disastrous effects on the ocean and accounts for more CO2 emissions (排放) than air transport each year.

The ship is a case study in sustainability. A small farm in the boat allows Pauli to grow vegetables, while air bubble nets prevent overfishing by separating fish by weight and then releasing the reproductive females, which tend to be heavier due to their eggs. As well as being largely powered by solar panels, the ship will soon be equipped with a device that separates and concentrates nanoplastics (纳米塑料) from seawater and transforms them into fuel.

Pauli’s design is based on famous painter and theorist Michelangelo Pistoletto’s theory, which proposes a balanced combination of nature and technology. The 88-year-old Italian artist believes that the ship offers “the possibility” of making his concept a reality.

For Pauli, this sense of responsibility for the environment and communities was the driving force behind the project. “We have done too much analysis on environmental issues, and too much analysis on the problem often leads to inaction. I knew that whatever we’re doing is far from what is needed, and it’s also far from what is possible.”

The ship set sail from Osaka, Japan on December 18 in 2021, and is expected to make dozens of stops on five continents. It will complete a three-year voyage before returning to Japan in time for the 2025 World Expo.

1. What is the major task of the Porrima?
A.Explore the nature of modern materials.B.Put sustainable technology into practice.
C.Stress the importance of ocean protection.D.Show the advantages of solar-powered ships.
2. What can be inferred about environmental protection from Pauli’s words?
A.People lack awareness of it.B.People have done nothing about it.
C.People should and can do more about it.D.People should do more analysis about it.
3. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Gunter Pauli: An Ambitious Boat Designer
B.MS Porrima: Technology to Preserve Nature
C.Sea Transport: A Sustainable Form of Transport
D.Technology: An Inspiration for Designing Ships

【推荐3】Though leaders from the International Olympic Committee(IOC)have announced a first-of-its-kind postponement of the Tokyo Summer Olympics because of the corona virus epidemic, people all over the world are still concerned about its preparations.Officials from the Tokyo Olympic Committee say they are sparing no effort and announce the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021 is going green. The 5,000 medals Japan has made are more special than most.

One novel focus of the Tokyo Olympics is to be"sustainable”-to avoid using too many natural resources,so that the games are easy on the environment. As part of this goal, the organizers decided to make all of the Olympic medals out of metal recycled from old electronics.

Almost all electronics are made with small amounts of"precious metals",like gold and silver. But collecting enough of these metals to make 5,000 medals was a huge challenge. That's because the amount of metal in each device is tiny.It would take about 20,000 cell phones to get just l kilogram of gold.

Beginning in April 2017,the organizers placed collection boxes around the country, and asked people to turn in their old electronic devices.Soon people began to respond to the initiative(倡导),turning in smart phones, digital cameras, handheld games, and laptops. At first, collection went slowly, but soon more and more   areas began to take part.By the end,1,621 local governments had helped out with the collection process.

Then came the job of breaking those devices down into smaller pieces. After eing taken apart and sorted, the small electronics were smelted(熔炼)to get all the gold, silver, and bronze elements. This is a tricky job, which calls for careful attention and good skill. It's also dangerous, because some of the metals and other things aren't safe for people to touch or breathe.

By the end of March,2019,the organizers had hit their targets of getting enough metal for the medals. They had collected around 32 kilograms of gold,4,100 kilograms of silver and 2,200 kilograms of bronze. And now all the 5,000 medals are available for the would-be winners.

D.The process of collecting old electronics.
3. The underlined word “tricky” in Paragraph 5 means"
A.creativeB.demandingC.well-paidD.time-consuming
4. What's the purpose of Tokyo's way of making the medals?
A.To advocate sustainable use of resources.
B.To promote the spirit of Olympic Games.
C.To introduce a new technique to make medals.
D.To show the gravity of environmental damage.
