Who is your idol (偶像)? For many primary and middle school students in Beijing, Yuan Longping is the first on their list. Others are Qian Xuesen, Zhong Nanshan and Albert Einstein.
Idols do great things. They help us to overcome (克服) difficulties. We learn from them and want to be like them.
Chinese snowboarder Su Yiming’s idol is Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris. To be like McMorris, Su worked hard. At the Beijing Winter Olympics, he stood on the podium (领奖台) with his idol.
Zhang Guimei is a teacher in a mountainous area in Yunnan. She helped many girls go to college. People call her an “ordinary hero”. Her spirit comes from her idol, the hero Jiang Zhujun.
