“How did you do it, Dad? How did you try _________ drink alcohol (酒) for almost 20 years?” It _________ me almost 20 years to have the courage to even ask my father this very personal question.

When Dad first _________ drinking, the whole family was on pins and needles. We were _________ that he would start drinking again because drinking had been a _________ of his life.

We often do many things with our legs and arms. But what can you do     16    ?

The aim (目的) of students who come to school is to study. But studying requires (需要) a right way, or you will waste either the time or the money. The followings are the ways of studying.

The best time for reading is morning, because in the morning, the air is fresh and the mind is clear. For that reason, we can get good results.

In studying we must have patience (耐心). If we do not know a text well, we must read it again. We shouldn’t read the next one until we have understood the first one.

When we are studying, we must put our hearts into the book, or we can get nothing from the book while we are reading.

We must always ask “whys”. If it is not well understood, write it down and ask our teachers, parents or friends. In any possible way, we must know it completely and what we’ve learned can be used well and made better.

Though there are many ways of studying, yet the above mentioned (提到的) will be quite enough if we can keep them in mind and do so.

A man worked hard in a factory. Every day he came back home from work late, tired, to find his 5-year-old son waiting for him at the door.

“Daddy, how much money do you make an hour?” “Oh, my baby. I make $20 an hour.”

“Oh,” the little boy replied with his head down. He thought for a moment, looked up and said, could you lend me $10?”

The father was very angry, “If you asked for the money to buy a toy or some junk food for yourself, then go straight to your room and think it over.”

The little boy didn’t want to make his father angry, so he went to his room quietly. An hour later, the father calmed down and thought carefully.

“Sorry! I was too hard on you just now,” said the man, “Here’s $10.”

“Thank you, Daddy!” he said happily. Then the boy took out some coins. When the father found the boy already had some money, he didn’t understand why the little boy asked for another $10.

After seeing his father’s strange feeling, “Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do.” The little boy replied quickly. “Daddy, I have $20 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home earlier tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.”

Last night, I had a beautiful dream. I was very     36     that a robot came into my home. I called her Red because she was wearing a red dress. She did all my jobs     37     the house. She cleaned my house, mopped the floor, made my bed, cooked meals and did my homework. She did     38     that she could do so well. She     39     said anything unhappy and did not need a rest. I was very glad that she helped     40     all the time. Suddenly, I couldn’t find my dear Red. As I was crying, I found that she was just in my dream.

One day, a man saw a wallet when he was walking along a road. He picked it up and found that there was nothing in it. Just then, a woman and a policeman came up and caught him.

“Where is my money?” the woman kept asking him.

But the man replied, “There was no money in it when I found it.”

The woman cried, “Please give it back to me. It’s for my son’s school fees (学费).”

The man saw that the woman was really sad, so he took out all his money and gave it to the woman. “Take this. I’m so sorry,” said the man. The woman left happily.

In the afternoon, the woman walked to her son’s school to pay the school fees. Near the school, she found that a man was following her. She looked carefully. It was the man who had stolen her wallet in the morning! She thought the man must want to steal her money again, so she went to the policeman who had helped her in the morning. The woman told him about the man following her.

The policeman saw the man and said to the woman, “Oh, it’s a mistake. He didn’t steal your money in the morning. When he heard about your son’s school fees, he felt sad and gave you all his own money.

“But why is he following me again this afternoon?” the woman asked. Then the man said, “I follow you to make sure that no one steals your son’s school fees.”

Sometimes we shouldn’t be too quick to judge (评判) others. Not everything we see, hear or believe about someone is true.

My mother asked me when I was 5, “What is the most important part of the body?” I said, “Is it our ears?” “No,” she said. “Because there are still many people who can’t hear things. Keep thinking and I     46     you again later. ”

Three years passed before she asked me again. This time I said, “Sight is important, so it must     47     our eyes.” “No,” she said. “Because there are many people who can’t see things.” I    48     this question in my mind. My mom asked me a couple more times and the only reply I got was, “You     49     closer.”

Last year, Grandpa passed away. Everybody was quite sad. When it was our turn to say goodbye to Grandpa, she asked me, “Have you figured out the most important part of the body?”

I was shocked when she asked me this. “This question is very important. Today is the day you should     50     this lesson.”

She looked at me and I saw tears in her eyes. “My dear, the most important part of the body is your shoulder,” she said. “Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometimes. I hope you will have a shoulder to cry on when you need it. And I hope you can also be the shoulder for someone else.”

Joe Sanders was afraid to talk to his classmates because of the bullies (欺辱) at school. He was always lonely and scared.     66     He walked into a newspaper office and told them about the bullying. His story went into the newspaper and soon all the TV stations in Canada wanted to talk to him about his experiences. They also wanted to hear his ideas to stop bullying.

After that, Joe continued his studies at school, but in his free time he helped other people with bullying problems. With a friend Robin, he made a website called www.bullyingcanada. ca.     67     When people are unhappy, they can talk on the phone or online to Joe and his team.     68     He also speaks to children, teachers and members of government around the country about bullying.

Joe’s most important message is: “when bullies are unkind to you, it isn’t your fault. There’s nothing wrong with you.     69     And remember that people care about your problems. You just have to find those people.” One of Joe’s ideas is “Blue Day”, a special day for stopping bullying in schools.     70     More than 150 Canadian schools now celebrate Blue Day, but Joe won’t stop until there’s a Blue Day in every school in Canada.
