It’s Tuesday today. After four classes in the morning, it’s time for lunch. “Boys and girls, do you want to go to the City Book Store with me this afternoon?” Miss Cheng asks. All the students in our class are very happy, because we don’t have to have three afternoon classes as usual (像往常一样). So we answer, “Yes!” “Well, come to the classroom after lunch,” Miss Cheng says.

At about 1:30 pm, we take a bus to the City Book Store. We get to the store at 2:00 pm.

In the City Book Store are lots of books, but I can’t read (读) all of them. I only read two books about my favorite subject, history. The books in the store are nice, but they are expensive. I can’t afford them.

After two hours, we go to the front door (前门) of the book store. With Miss Cheng’s help, some of the students buy some books at a special discount (折扣). Then we take a bus to our school.

The Read family comes to a new big city, but Mrs. Read’s son, Bob is not happy. He doesn’t have anyone to play with. “Don’t worry!” says his mother. “You will soon make friends here.”

One morning , there is a knock at door . Bob’s mother, Mrs. Read, opens it. There stands a woman with brown hair. It is Mrs. Miller. She comes to borrow two eggs. She wants to make cakes. Mrs. Read gives her two. In the afternoon there is another knock at the door. Mrs. Read opens it and she sees a boy standing there. “My name is Jack Miller,” he says, “My mother sends you this cake and two eggs.” “Well, thank you, Jack,” says Mrs. Read. “Come in and meet my son Bob.”

Look! Bob and Jack are having the cake and milk. They are playing football. Now they are friends! Jack says. “I’m glad you live next door.” Bob says, “I must thank your mother for coming to borrow eggs.” Jack laughs and tells Bob, “My mother doesn’t want the two eggs, but she wants to make friends you’re your mother!” Bob says, “That’s a funny way to make friends. It’s an easy way. It can work!”

David is a big fan of football. When there is a football match, he does nothing. He just sits in front of the TV set. His wife Sally likes watching TV plays.

One evening there is an important football match. And there is also a very interesting TV play. Sally likes it very much. But David sits before the TV set. He doesn’t let Sally change the channel （频道）, he wants to have a good time tonight. Sally is very angry. So she goes to her mother’s house. When she comes into her mother’s house, her father is watching that football match, too. “Where is my mother, Dad?” asks Sally. “She goes to your grandma’s house.” says her father without looking at her. “Why?” “I want to watch the football match, but she likes to watch a TV play.”
