When it’s 11 p.m., you may be asleep. But for some people, it’s time for them to enjoy a night-time snack, also called yexiao.

Yexiao is the fourth meal of the day in China. It usually starts from 9 p.m. and may last（持续）until 2 a.m. There are some differences between the north and the south about it.

In the north part of China, barbecue is the popular night snack, especially in summer. While in the south, it changes from spicy crayfish in Hunan to delicious desserts in Guangdong. People from different places have their special taste.

Taiwan’s night market is very famous. It is a place for eating and shopping. Parents take their children to eat at street shops. Young people shop around. Old people just sit around and chat.

Today, with the time going on, yexiao is changing in some places. For example, in Hong Kong, traditional snacks include red bean soup and mango pudding. But now French pastries and hand-made popsicles are new favourites.

But why do people have yexiao? “Some say that in southern China we have longer（更长）days, so we have much time to enjoy yexiao,” Janice Leung Hayes says, a food writer from Hong Kong.

But yexiao is not just about food. Eating, drinking and chatting with each other are all part of it. All these make yexiao a way of life.

Work is helpful to health. Scientists find that the hard-working people live longer than the people with no jobs. Studies show that people without jobs are in poorer health than those with jobs.

Why is work good for health? It is because work keeps people busy away from being sad. Studies show that people feel unhappy, worried and lonely when they have nothing to do. Instead, the happiest people are those busy ones. Many people feel happy when they are working hard because they love their work and they can get a lot from it. By work, people get to know each other. By taking part in all kinds of activities, they make friends. It is helpful to health. The loss (缺失) of work often makes people think they have nothing. It can slowly change a person and make people sick.

Besides, work gives people a feeling (感觉) of hope and achievement. Work makes one feel he is important. When a writer finishes his writing or a teacher sees his students grow, they will be very glad and proud.

Suddenly Peter remembers Tinker Bell.

“Tinker, Tinker!” he calls. “Where are you?” The tinkling sound is coming from the top drawer. Peter opens it and Tinker flies out. She is very angry.

“Peter, where do you live?” asks Wendy.

“We live in Neverland, with the lost boys. I’m their captain.”

“Oh! I’d love to see a mermaid!” cries Wendy. Then she wakes up John and Michael. Peter has some of Tinker Bell’s dust (灰尘) on his hands. He puts it on the children. With its help, Michael first flies across the room. Then John flies and meets Wendy in the air.

Just at that moment Mr. and Mrs. Darling are coming home from the party. They look up and see the children’s bedroom window full of light. They see their children going round and round, not on the floor, but in the air! When they run to open the bedroom door, nobody is there.
