As the train was pulling into the _____ station, the old man got ready for the rush. As soon as the train stopped, he disappeared（消失）for the third time and _____ among us in another 30 seconds. He looked satisfied while drops of sweat（汗水）were running _____ his face.

The other passengers looked at one another. Their eyes were filled with surprise and so were ______ . I felt I could hardly continue the journey unless the wonder was made clear. I asked, “I don’t mean to be impolite, but ______ do you get off every time the train stops?”

“To get the ______ to the next station,” the man answered.

“Why don’t you buy one to the ______ you’re going to?” I continued.

Our lives have changed since the day our son was born. We w    41     whether we should move back to our home country Brazil. I remember looking down at our newborn baby and thinking about how different his life would be there.

As a musician, it would be e    43     for her to do her work in Brazil. But in the United Kingdom, I had the funding（资金）and lab resources（实验室资源）for my research. A few weeks later, my brother called from Brazil, telling me that our father had passed away. The great happiness I felt about my son’s birth suddenly gave way to deep s    45    . It was the right time to r    46     to Brazil. We applied for the professor positions（教授职位）at a university in our hometown and both were a    47     .

It wasn’t easy getting s    48     with my research in Brazil. Thanks to Brazilian funding, now I have a team of bright young scientists and buy expensive lab resources.
