My mother told me we would have a yard sale this weekend. Yesterday I ________ lots of old things from my bedroom. I had to ________ five things I no longer use. I was quite ________ at first. Mt Qomolangma is the world’s highest mountain. How hard was it to climb this mountain around 60 years ago? You can find out by watching the film Climbers. It began to open in cinemas on Sept 30, 2019.

The film tells the real stories of Chinese climbers. They climbed the mountain in 1960 and 1975.

On the northern slope (北坡) of Mt Qomolangma, there is a 30-meter-high cliff   (峭壁).

Nobody one can get to the top without going over this cliff. In 1960, a Chinese climbing team tried to reach the top. The four members stood on each other’s shoulders (肩膀) to climb the cliff. Although it was hard for them to take in air, they still succeeded in reaching the top.

They became the first people to reach the top of Mt Qomolangma from the northern slope.

Fifteen years later, another Chinese climbing team reached the top. They spent a whole day building a ladder (梯子) on the cliff. The ladder helped more than 1,300 climbers from all over the world achieve their dream of climbing the mountain. The ladder stopped working in 2008. It is now in a museum in Lhasa, Tibet.
