I’m Lin Wei. I’m a student in Sunshine Middle School. There is a library in our school. The library opens at 8 o’clock in the morning and closes at 5:00 in the afternoon. It’s not big, but it’s very nice. About 8, 000 books are in it, about 6, 000 of them are in Chinese, and about 2, 000 are in English.

I like reading books very much. I go to the library every day. Mrs. Black works there. She can always help students find the books. We have a computer room in the library. The students need their ID cards to go into the computer room. We have classes in the computer room, too. Our library has the Lost and Found, too. Miss Yang works there. My friend Lucy helps her every afternoon. Miss Yang is very happy to help the students find their things.

What does a day look like for a high school student in the United States? Well, I can tell you about my day in high school .

Our school day goes from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. However, some days I have cheerleading(啦啦队) practice or play practice at 6:30 a.m. If I have time, I eat breakfast at the school dining room.

Then I go towards my locker and take my books for the first period. Each class goes for about 50 minutes and we have 10 minutes to get to the next class. We study everything from Science to Math and French to P.E.

I play the piano in band, so one of my class periods is used for that. Lunchtime is usually at 12:30 p.m. and then we have some time to hang out outside or by our lockers. At the end of the day there is a seminar(研讨) period. It is used for studying or meetings.

After school, I cheer at a basketball game, be a lifeguard(救生员) at work or have speech practice. My family always try to have dinner together at around 7 p.m., but there isn’t always time. I finally start studying at around 8 or 9 p.m.

Her School Journey

Eleven-year-old Emily Jones lives on an island (岛) in the Orkneys. Emily’s island is very small and there are only thirty people living there. Emily enjoys her life on the island.

She often goes fishing and swimming. But what about school?

Emily can see her school from her garden. It’s a few kilometers away. The problem is that the building is on a different island and the journey is very long. She travels by bike, by bus and by ship to get there.

Like other children, Emily goes to school five days a week. She can 5 every day in summer, and from Monday to Saturday in winter. The ship is small and only has space for twenty passengers (乘客). Sometimes, Emily is the only passenger, but the workers in the ship are friendly and Emily likes them.

Sometimes, the weather is bad and Emily gets to school late. The teachers understand this and never get angry with her. Classes like sport and music are never the first ones on a school day. She usually has maths, and the teachers often give her help at lunchtime.

Sometimes the weather is fine in the morning, but then it’s bad in the afternoon. When this happens, Emily doesn’t go home. She sleeps at a friend’s house.
