Spain is famous for its tomato festival. It happens on the last Wednesday of August every year. During the festival there are all kinds of activities, but the most ________ part is the tomato fight. It takes place at the end of too long celebration.

________ the tomato fight, there are parades（游行）, musical bands, street parties and so on. On the day of the fight, shopkeepers ________ their windows and doors to keep away from the tomato fight. At the same time, thousands of tourists and local people come to the town square together. Then large trucks full of tomatoes arrive. From the back of the large trucks, a great town band start to throw tomatoes at others. Then the ________ fight back, throwing the tomatoes at anything and anyone. Soon the streets are in the sea of red tomato juice.

Everyone is supposed to obey the rules: You must squash（压烂）the tomato before throwing it and you are allowed to throw ________ but tomatoes. It is usually over in less than half an hour. Everyone then sets out to the river to clean up. Sounds like fun!

This summer, when I walked into my grandparents’ house with my little brother Frank, I tried not to look at Grandpa’s chair anyway. It still looked the same. His blue _________ was there, as if Grandpa was going to pull it over his legs. My cousin Jack was playing in the yard as if _________ had happened. “Let’s go to catch fish!” Jack _________ his fish net from the corner, Grandpa’s net.

Last summer, I was holding the net when Grandpa asked me _________ I could help him teach Frank how to play chess. I said no because I wanted to catch fish. Grandpa had been the one who’d taught us how to catch fish, but then the _________ made him stay behind.

Grandma was worried to see a wet Frank and _________ put Grandpa’s blue blanket around him. As I went to the stream again to meet Jack, I looked back at Frank with that old blanket. Something seemed to _________ me at that moment. Everything was just like before, but Grandpa was gone.

I walked to Frank. “Did Grandpa teach you to play chess last summer?” I asked. “No, Grandpa was too sick then.” he said “I miss him.”

“Me, too.” When I said it, I knew Grandpa was never gone. What __________ us was still there. It could be the fish net. It could be the chess. It could be the blue blanket.
