文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章为我们介绍了伟大的作家Dickens及其作品。

On June 9th, 1870, Charles Dickens died at the age of 58. The next day, a headline in The New York Times read: “Death of the Great Novelist Will Be Remembered by the People...”.

The headline was not overstating (夸大) the popularity of Dickens. Even today, the British novelist is loved by readers all over the world. Dickens created some unforgettable characters. You must have heard of or even read some of his novels: Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities and A Christmas Carol.

A Tale of Two Cities has sold more than 200 million copies. Since 1897, there have been more than 300 film and TV adaptations of Dickens’ works. A Christmas Carol alone has had nearly 50.

Natalie Mcknight is a literature professor (文学教授) who studies Dickens and his works. She explains why the novelist has remained so popular. One important reason, she says is that Dickens wrote from his heart. He tried hard to produce emotional effects (情感效果), he paid special attention to the “little man” at the bottom of society in the UK, which deeply mirrored the social reality at that time. A Christmas Carol, was written to make every reader think about how they could make a difference to their society. People always enjoy works that make them laugh, cry and think. Many other 9th-century novelists wrote entertaining (娱乐的) works. However, few of them worked as hard as Dickens to touch the readers deeply.

Dickens wrote about situation and emotions that still interest people today. He used his pen to fight social inequality and gave voice to the poor. His works led to many important social changes. Readers always enjoy seeing poor people rise and succeed.

This year marks the 150th year of Dickens’ death. It’s another chance to remember this great writer. Will you read or re-read some of his famous works?

6. What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing Paragraph (段落) One?
A.To introduce a theme.B.To give examples.C.To provide a solution.
7. In the writer’s eyes, how are the works by Dickens based on Paragraph Two?
A.GreatB.Unforgettable.C.Loving.
8. What does the underlined word “adaptations” mean in Chinese?
A.播出版B.原创版C.改编版
9. According to paragraph 4, which sentence may agree with the writer’s opinion?
A.Dickens wrote his works from his own experience.
B.The works touched the people from the bottom of society.
C.Readers would enjoy the works that make them think and fight.
10. The purpose of writing this text is probably to ________.
A.introduce Charles Dickens’ life and death
B.encourage readers to read or re-read Charles Dickens’ works
C.present the similarities between Charles Dickens and other writers

文章大意:本文就“笑是最好的药物”展开了讨论,通过科学家的观点和宠物主人的观点向我们展示了笑是开心的一种表现,鼓励我们与人分享喜悦。

There’s an old saying: “Laughter is the best medicine,” and modern research certainly shows that laughing is good for you. When you have a good laugh, you exercise your muscles (肌肉), strengthen your heart and balance your body chemistry. However, these are the results of having a laugh, not the explanations (解释) of why we do it.

Until recently, scientists believed that laughter was a human behavior only. They argued that people find jokes funny because we can put ourselves in another person’s shoes, and that animals can’t do that. People don’t all have the same sense of humor. Sometimes there isn’t any joke; but we laugh because the people around us are laughing. How long and how loud we would laugh are also shared. We just go on following the example with one another until the laughter fades away (消失).

Many pet owners insist that animals have a sense of humor, too. For example, pet dogs often run away with a slipper (拖鞋), inviting their owners to run after them. Dogs even seem to smile when their owners join in the game. As the game continues, our pets make noises that are very like laughter. You can compare this behavior to the laughter of a baby, waits for the adult to pick it up and throws it down again.

Perhaps laughter is just a sign that we are having fun. Fun, like laughter, is the best when we share it with friends.

11. What is Paragraph 1 mainly about?
A.The causes of having a laugh.
B.The results of having a laugh.
C.Different ways of having a laugh.
12. Scientists believed that ________.
A.people have the same sense of humor
B.both humans and animals can find jokes funny
C.sometimes some people laugh because people around them do so
13. What can we know from the behavior of pet dogs?
A.Pet dogs are very naughty.
B.Animals have a sense of humor, too.
C.Animals are more humorous than human beings.
14. When a baby throws a toy down, waits for the adults to pick it up and throws it down again, he will be ________.
A.nervousB.angryC.happy
15. What does the writer encourage us to do?
A.Share fun with friends.B.Play games with babies.C.Make friends with animals.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章向我们提出了一些提高人脑记忆力的建议。
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

The human brain weighs about 1.4 kilograms, but it can hold much more information than most computers.     16     Computers don’t forget information they are given, but humans often do. No one remembers everything, and luckily we don’t usually have to. But everyone can improve their memories if they want to.     17

Try to use new information immediately. For example, if you meet someone who says “Hi! I’m Carlos,” don’t just say “hello”. Repeat the person’s name and say “Hello”.

18     For example, it’s hard to remember 109244153. But if you break it into three parts — 109/244/153, it will become easier.

Write down what you need to remember over and over again. This will help you keep it in mind longer, especially when memorizing formulas or facts.

Always review information. If you bring what you’ve learned back to your mind, it’ll become easier to remember. For example, before you go to sleep, it’s a good idea to review the new things you learned that day.

Discuss things with friends.     19     You can have a discussion about what’s right or wrong, and it will lead to the right answer.

All of the suggestions are helpful.     20

A.Break a big number into small parts.
B.It is always easier to remember things through discussions.
C.Here are some suggestions.
D.If you follow them, you are certain to improve your memory.
E.However, there is another difference between human brains and computers.
