Do you know the 3-year-old girl named Dong Xinyi? She has a great nickname (绰号) “Little Strong Girl”. And she moved (使感动) many people around China.

When she was a few months old, her father had an accident on his way home when riding his motorbike and lost his legs. Two years later, her mother left (离开) her father because of the poor life. People often say, “The children of poor people do housework early.” Little Xinyi had to do family chores, such as cooking noodles, carrying water, cleaning rooms and washing clothes. She looked after her father by herself. The little girl brings happiness and hope to her poor family. And luckily (幸运地), the local government (当地政府) gives them much help and takes her father to the hospital. At the same time, the government also helps the girl go to school. Now, Dong Xinyi can go to school like other kids.

On Mom’s 36th birthday, Paul and Betty wanted to give her a birthday present.

“Do you know what Mom wants?” Paul asked Betty.

“I don’t know,” said Betty. “We bought her some chocolate on her last birthday.”

“Yeah, but we ate most of it! We shouldn’t do that again.” said Paul.

“Let’s buy her a book,” said Betty. “Mom likes reading very much.”

So the children bought their mother this book for her birthday. They didn’t eat chocolate this time, but they ate delicious food. Mom cooked it with the help of the book!

Doctor Carl was a very busy man. He always worked hard. He often forgot his families’ birthdays.

Yesterday afternoon he remembered (记得) it was his wife’s (妻子的) birthday. He loved his wife. He wanted to give her a present. On his way home from hospital, he bought some beautiful flowers in a shop.

When Doctor Carl got home, he gave his wife the flowers and said, “Happy birthday to you, dear!” “It’s April 20th today. I remember your birthday this year.” Mrs. Carl said, “My birthday was the day before yesterday, but thank you all the same. Better late than never!”

May 13th is my birthday. But in my country, thirteen is not a lucky（幸运的）number.     46     They don’t think 13 is a good number. Also people don’t like to live on the thirteenth floor.
