“I wish I had straight hair”. “I’d love curly hair”. “I wish I was taller”. At times, people want to look a bit more like someone else. The photos you see on the screen can give you ideas about how your bodies “should” look. The truth is that you are all different in your own way. Accepting who you are can help you feel happier and more positive about yourself.
Self-acceptance means appreciating what you’re good at, like sports, science or music. It also means valuing the parts of you that don’t shine as brightly, like being forgetful or untidy. It’s a habit about being kind to yourself even when you make a mistake. In other words, just accept who you are no matter what other people say or think.
When you accept who you are, you worry less about things you can’t change. This makes you feel happier and more confident. Everyone can feel as if they have to appear perfect. That leads us to forget about the little things that make us special, because we’re so busy trying to meet someone else’s standards. Self-acceptance can also help you discover what you’re really good at.
Start by making a list of all the things you like about yourself. Maybe you’re good at cooking, or people find it easy to talk to you. Ask your friends for help. Also, try saying kind, positive things to yourself in a mirror every morning. Think up ways to treat yourself, like taking a long bath or watching your favorite film, and spend some quality time on your own. It’s also important to look after yourself by eating healthy food and getting plenty of sleep.
A.change our looks | B.learn from others |
C.shorten screen time | D.accept ourselves |
A.Wondering. | B.Admiring. |
C.Practicing. | D.Forgetting. |
A.become confident | B.appear perfect |
C.meet others’ standards | D.overcome our weaknesses |
A.Paragraph 1. | B.Paragraph 2. | C.Paragraph 3. | D.Paragraph 4. |
A.Practice makes perfect. |
B.Where there is love, there is life. |
C.You are imperfect, but you are beautiful. |
D.Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today. |
“Military-style” travel has become the latest fashion among Chinese college students, who spend as little money as possible to travel to as many places as they can during the weekend, hardly taking a break or even sleeping.
Hu Die, a college student from Inner Mongolia, is one such traveler. On April 26, she took a high-speed train from Hohhot to Tai’an, Shandong province, to climb Mount Tai. It took her about four hours to climb to the top of the mountain and, after enjoying the beautiful sunrise on April 27, she went down to visit Dai Temple at the foot.
She then went to Jinan in the afternoon, visited Daming Lake and Quancheng Square in the evening, and on the morning of April 28 went to Baotu Spring and Heihu Spring. Next, she traveled to Zibo and, after eating the famous BBQ in the city, went to Yantai and Weihai before May 4, when she arrived in Luoyang, Henan province. There, she visited the Longmen Grottoes and then returned to her university on May 5.
“We do not think we are doing something ‘crazy’ or ‘unbelievable’. We are young and energetic enough to experience such a busy travel schedule,” she said. “Moreover, when you travel with your friends, you are happy, and after the adrenaline(肾上腺素) kicks in, you do not feel tired.”
For many university students with no much money and time, the wish to see the world and travel independently is a basic drive. These young travelers are less interested in in-depth experiences and more focused on checking off popular tourist places on their travel plan. This has led to the fast growth of a type of tourism where travelers would rather give up comfort and luxury(豪华) for affordability and convenience.

It is believed that robots could one day be our friends, but until now they have always seemed more machine than person. A new study has found that in fact it’s possible for robots to fool us, they just have to be less than perfect.
Wykowska, a researcher, came up with a test using a child-sized robot called iCub. In the test, people were asked to press a button(按钮) when a green box appeared on a screen, while iCub reacted(反应) to red boxes. Wykowska programmed the robot to take different lengths(长度) of time to react, just like a person would. After that, people couldn’t tell whether they had been competing with a machine or a person according to the timings of pressing the buttons. She believes that making robots have more human reactions is the key to making better robots and creating more trust between humans and robots.
In another study with iCub, the robot and a man watched videos together. In the first test, iCub greeted the man, and asked for his name. It shared opinions about the videos, laughed and showed expressions such as surprise and joy. In the second test, however, iCub did not communicate and just made machine-like noises. The team found that people in the first test were more likely to believe that the robot had its own thoughts.
The team now wants to know if people can build up closer relationships with machine-like robots that still show human-like behaviors. They plan to repeat the tests using robots of different shapes and sizes, to check how people react.
