The blind old man smiled, answering, “There are four reasons. First, I was a gardener when I was young, and I really like this job. Second, I can’t see the flowers, but I can touch them. Third, I can smell the sweetness of them. As to the last one, that’s you.”

“Me? But you don’t know me,” said the painter.

“Yeah, it’s true that I don’t know you. But I know flowers are like angels (天使) . Everyone likes them and would never turn them down. I know many people passed and stopped to see the flowers of my garden. They could be happy. At the same time, I can chat with them and enjoy the happiness together.”

We can believe that every flower has eyes which can help us see the kindness of the old man’s heart (心) . He plants flowers in his heart. He can’t see the beauty of blossoming (开花) , but he surely can hear the voice of it.
