Looking for a new way to raise money for charity (慈善)? Has your school run out of clever and fun ideas? Don’t give up. There are several ways to support your favorite charity.

How about organizing a car wash? Everybody who has a car sooner or later washes it or has it washed. So why don’t you and your classmates do the job? The money the car owners pay for having their cars washed will go towards your charity. When we did it, we had an amazing time! At first, some of us were worried about getting wet or dirty and it’s true. But we also had fun, and at the end of the day it was really worth it!

On the other hand, if you don’t feel like getting wet or messy, but have some musical talent, how about organizing a street concert? Street musicians can make a lot of money, and so can you if you’ve got the talent and courage it takes to play in front of an audience. You just need to find a suitable place, practice for a few hours with your friends first, and give it a try!

One Sunday evening, it was quite dark when old Stanley went for a walk. He was walking along the sidewalk. Suddenly, he saw a white car coming around the corner at high speed (速度). It was going too fast and crashed (冲向) into a red car in the street where he was walking. He ran to the cars to see if anyone was hurt and needed help.

The two drivers were arguing.

“You came around the corner too fast,” one man said.

“No!” said the driver of the white car. “That’s not true! Your car was parked in a wrong place.”

Stanley listened to their argument and then said the white car driver was wrong to drive too fast. The driver of the red car asked Stanley to show he was right in court (法庭). Stanley gave the driver his name and telephone number.

Next Thursday morning, Stanley was asked to go to the court. The lawyer (律师) for the driver of the white car asked him a lot of questions about what he had seen. Then he asked Stanley how old he was.

“I’m eighty-two.”answered Stanley.

“Do you usually wear glasses?” asked the lawyer. “Yes, I do,” answered Stanley.

“Were you wearing them on the night of the accident?” the lawyer asked. “No,” replied Stanley.

Then the lawyer said, “Why should the court believe you? You are eighty-two years old, you were not wearing your glasses, and it was dark. How far can you see in the dark?”

Stanley thought about it for a minute. “Well,” he said, “when it’s dark. I can see the moon. How far is it?”

What should you do if there’s an earthquake (地震) at school? How can you save yourself when you are caught in a stampede (踩踏)? March 25 this year provides you with something about safety.

This day is called the National Day of Education on the Safety of Elementary and Middle School Students (NDESEMSS) (全国中小学生安全教育日). The topic of the day this year is to help students learn more about safety and make sure their lives safe. A survey showed that school accidents kill more students than anything else. The main accidents come from stampedes, earthquakes, fires and sports injuries (伤害). What can we do to keep ourselves safe? Staying calm is the first and most important rule when facing accidents. But we have different advice on different accidents.

A stampede is possible anywhere. The more people get together, the more likely stampedes are to come. When students around you begin to push, you should stand still and try to hold onto something, or stay in a corner until the crowd leaves. If you fall down in a moving crowd, cover your head with both hands.

Earthquakes are common. When you feel the ground shake, drop down, take cover under a desk and hold on. You should stay indoors until the shaking stops. If you are outdoor, don’t stay near buildings, trees or power lines.

When there’s a fire, follow the teachers’ words, leave the classroom quickly and use a piece of cloth to cover your mouth and nose so that you don’t breathe in smoke.

The following are some of the new rules for middle school students.

Don’t copy someone else’s work in an exam. That’s not what an honest student should do. If you are playing computer games in your room. Don’t tell your parents you are doing your homework.

Good students are kind to other people and love animals. April is a bird-loving month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate? You should join! In that way, you can learn more about animals and how to protect them. When more people work together, it makes more fun for everyone.

Do you argue with your teammates when your basketball team loses the game? Remember only working together can make your team stronger. Be friendly to the people you are with. Try to think of others, not only yourself.

Don’t look down new ideas. Everyone’s new idea is important. You should welcome them, because new ideas make life better for everyone.

The Internet can be useful for your studies. But some things on the Internet aren’t good for kids, so try to look at Web pages that are good for you. You can use the Web for fun or homework.

Great news! Mrs. Smith just told me I would be one of the school     36     (student) to visit the University of Cape Towu in South Africa this summer! She said the program was designed (设计) for some of the brighter teenagers to experience a different     37     (文化).     38     a good chance!
