Making friends is a skill. If you want to meet people and make friends, you must be w    14     to do something. You must first go where there are people. You won’t make friends by staying home a    15    .

Joining a club or a group and talking to those who like the same things as you is a much e    16     way.

Many people are s    17     when talking to strangers. After all, meeting strangers means facing the unknown. And it’s human nature to feel uncomfortable about the unknown. We think other people are judging us—finding us too tall or too short, too this or too that. But don’t forget that they must be feeling the s    18     way.

Try to be brave when you e    19     a room full of strangers. Walk straight, look directly (直接地) at other people with a s    20     on your face. Your smiling face means friendship.

If you see someone you’d like to speak to, say something. Don’t w    21     for the other person to start a conversation.

Just meeting someone new does not mean that you’ll make f    22     with that person. Making friends is not so easy. It t    23     time to develop friendship. And there are things that stop a new friendship from growing.

It was raining heavily as I was walking up the hill towards the station at six o’clock on Saturday morning. In this early morning, there wasn’t much traffic and there weren’t many people. Just as I was crossing the road near the top of the hill, a car came around the corner. It was traveling very fast. Suddenly, it hit a lamp post (路灯柱) and turned over.

I ran to the car to help the driver at once. He was badly hurt and there was a lot of blood on his face. A young woman hurried into the station and phoned for an ambulance (救护车) while I was taking care of the driver. A policeman arrived a few minutes later and asked me a lot of questions about the accident. After a while, the ambulance arrived and the driver was sent to the hospital.

On Monday morning, I went to the hospital to see the man. The doctor told me that he was much better and that he would leave the hospital after a few days’ rest.
