We went camping on a sunny morning. We wanted a(n) ________ two-day holiday. On the way, we ________ singing and making jokes.

However, in the afternoon, it was dark and windy. Soon, there was ________. Unluckily, we didn’t bring any umbrella and we could find no place to hide.

Twenty minutes passed and it was raining all the time. There were hours to go ________ we reached the end. It was even ________ that our small compass (指南针) showed the wrong way. We were lost! It was still raining ________, so we had to make a quick decision. Chris said we could ________ a tent (帐篷) to hide in. So Mary and Tom helped with the tent. Chris and I tried to make a fire to keep us warm. But we were unable to make it. Because everything was ________. But we still had ________ waiting and chatting inside the tent.

This camping trip may not be very ________, but we know each other better and it was unforgettable.

How do you spend your spare time? There will be different answers to it. Most people in Poland (波兰) have their own ways of spending free time. Sometimes they just want to take a rest,but they try to do something more interesting most of the time. They have many different hobbies,which help them to get away their everyday problems and spend their free time happily.

Polish (波兰的) people like travelling. They look for new places. Some of them like to climb mountains,others like to go to a sea or a lake to swim because these can make them get exercise and are good for their health.

People in Poland also like to do sports in their free time. They are usually big fans of football,and football is the Polish national sport. Many football fans may support (支持) a team. So they go to watch every match of the team they support,and they buy many things that have any relation (关联) with the team. Watching sports and doing it are both good ways to relax.

Doctors say that doing sports is very good for health. Many people in town,especially young men,often go to the gym to attend the exercise classes to keep it. They also have many other ways to spend their free time. And they really enjoy their free time.

Last January, when I finished a charity (慈善) and was on the train back home, I put down my phone and started writing thank-you letters to people who gave money.

Surprisingly, I felt amazingly good after I wrote it down. The next day, I wrote more thank-yous and I felt happy again. I suddenly had the idea: Why not keep on doing this for every day of the year?

To keep on task, I chose a different topic for each month. January was charity. February would be neighbors, I decided. And I thought of a number of names right away: the owner of bookstore, who helped me a lot and offered to play my boy’s favorite songs; our neighbor, who prepared lots of games for our kids to play; ...

While writing the letters, I realized how often I had spent my time on the phone moving from app to app, looking at other people’s lives. Writing thank-you letters gave me the time to do something different and appreciate (欣赏) my own life.

In the next months, I wrote to my friends, doctors and teachers. In July, my “food” month, I wrote to Julie, who used to cook at my favorite restaurant. It went like this:

Julie said, “It is really a touching letter. I never received such a touching letter before. I’m going through a hard time right now, and this helps.”

On December 31, I wrote my last letter—to Jake, my husband, and our two kids. And I took a picture of us, so I could remember the feeling.
