This is my first trip to Australia. I had a lot of hopes and dreams for my trip. I didn’t know what to expect, but I really wanted this holiday to be something _____

After booking a ticket to Australia, I landed in Sydney. Sydney is famous ____ the wonderful weather and beautiful beaches. I thought I could spend my whole life there ____ the relaxing atmosphere (气氛) and the amazing nightlife. But there is so much more to visit in other places of Australia.

Driving along the Great Ocean Road was a wonderful experience. It’s ____ a war memorial (纪念物), built by Australian soldiers to remember the people who died in World War Ⅰ. There were great views when driving on the ____.

Later, I visited the Clare Valley, wine area of South Australia. Clare Valley is about 130 kilometers north of Adelaide and ____ wine is well-known around the world, such as Riesling and Shiraz. The taste of Shiraz was really amazing.

Adelaide is the capital of South Australia. I ____ that it is also named as the City of Churches. It was once a place for Germans to avoid religious persecution (迫害). After World War Ⅱ, people from Italy, Greece, Poland and other European countries moved here. They brought varied ____ and traditions.

Nadia Comaneci, a famous gymnast, was born in Romania in 1961.

When she was doing cartwheels (侧手翻) on the playground at the age of 7, a PE teacher saw her. He told her family that she was very good and advised Nadia to train in the capital of Romania. Although it was a long way from her home, Nadia went because she loved gymnastics.

After that, she trained hard and took part in lots of competitions. In 1975, she was named as one of the Athletes of the 20th Century.

In 1976, Nadia went to the Olympics in Canada. She was so fantastic in the competition that everyone waited for the score, a high score. But the scoreboard showed 1.00!

Everyone was surprised. There wasn’t a sound for a moment. Then a voice came, “Ladies and gentlemen, Nadia Comaneci...10!”

The audience (观众) cheered very loudly. So what’s the matter with the scoreboard? Well, when the scoreboard was built, no one thought a score of 10.00 was possible. The decimal point was in the wrong place! In fact, the scoreboard only had three digits to show scores, such as 9.50 or 9.85 at that time.

In the 1976 Summer Olympics, Nadia Comaneci scored a perfect 10, which was thought impossible before. From then on, she was looked as a hero.

Mr Guo is a teacher from Xi’an. He asked his students to hand in their homework through a QR code. “We spent an hour or two in class learning how to generate (使产生) the codes, and in the end everything gets easier,” said Guo. “When students finish the homework, they keep it on We Chat. Then, each student makes his own QR code and gives it to me. So I can check their work everywhere using my computer or telephone.”

The QR codes can be sent to Mr Guo by email, QQ and WeChat. When Guo scans (扫描) his students’ QR codes, their homework appears on his phone. He finds that their homework becomes more creative, with many pictures, music and even videos.

Guo’s students like the new way and think it is interesting. “We are living in the information age. Many students like to work with computers, which makes learning more fun.” said Tingting, a student of Guo’s.

“The paper is not easy to keep, but the code is easy to keep and share.” Guo said. “It is worth trying to use new technology in education. Education itself is a kind of creation. I don’t want my students to fall behind the times.”

However, some parents are worried. They are afraid that their children will spend too much time on computers and less time communicating with teachers. But in fact, it’s unnecessary. Students still need to look up information in books and write it down when they do their homework. They only use the code when they hand in their work, which doesn’t take them too much time. Also for teachers, it allows them to check the students’ work at any time. And it’s also an easy way to share homework with other students.

We need to be responsible (负责的) for our environment. Being a frugal consumer (节俭的消费者) is one way to help. But, what exactly does that mean?

Use It Up

You can use things up instead of wasting them. Squeeze (挤) that last bit of toothpaste out of the tube. Use the last little piece of soap. Don’t throw away any bits of the biscuit at the bottom of the box.

Wear It Out

You do not always need to have new things. Suppose your sports shoes have broken laces (鞋带), but they still fit you. Repair them and wear them longer. You don’t have the latest iPhone until the old one doesn’t work any more. Then you can get a new one. Think twice before replacing something that still works.

Make It Do

When something you want is not on hand, look for something else that you already have to take its place. Suppose you are packing your lunch for tomorrow and want a butter sandwich. You are out of butter. Have a cheese sandwich instead so that you can use all of the cheese. Learn to fix broken toys instead of just throwing them away. With a little thought, you can make something do, instead of buying something new.

Do Without

Think about all those things that you would like to have. Do you really need them? How long will you really play with that new toy you saw on TV? Making the things that we want uses up your world’s resources (资源). And, getting rid of the things we don’t want any more takes up even more resources and space.

With the development of modern technology, digital devices (设备) have been seen everywhere. People often check what is h    56     in the world on the Internet, keep in touch with friends t    57     emails, or even start to read e-books. H    58     many people still prefer paper books to e-books because they think that brains work b    59     when reading paper books.

Now, some scientists have come up with some new ideas. They believe how brains work is not greatly i    60    , by the way people read, but depends on the following factors (因素).
