How to Make the Most of Your Visit

Please allow at least 1 hour and 30 minutes to enjoy the whole experience. And remember, though the entrance is at the North Tower, your visit does not end at the South Tower.     14     the line to the Engine Room, Hands-on Gallery and Gift Shop. When you think of a museum, I bet you won’t think of a place where children run around. But the Science Museum is different. It’s noisy.

You can get to the Science Museum by going on the London Underground from Wareloon the Jubilee line to Westminster. Then take the Circle or the District line to South Kensington. When you walk out, take a look around you, and you should see it.

What to bring: at least two bottles of drink for the kids and ￡10 to spend in the cafes. Entrance is free!

The most interesting and exciting part of coming here is to go to the Kids’ area, the Launch Pad on the third floor. At busy times, you may have to wait in line, but staff（员工）will provide science toys for you and the kids to play with. It is great fun in there. And if you love science, you will learn about science in a fun way. There are also simulators（模拟设备）on the third floor, so think of Floor3 as a “fun floor”.

If you want to learn about the museum, then go to the ground floor. They have something which will interest you.

Overall, it’s a fun experience for the kids and you may enjoy it, too. It’s also free to get in!

The book that can’t wait

One problem a lot of people have with books is that they buy them and then never start reading them.

To ______, a foreign businessman called Eterna Cadencia came up with a very clever idea: it printed the words of the books in disappearing ink: the text of the book disappears two months after the special book is opened, so that   buyers start reading it     37    it goes away. They call this “the book that can’t wait.”

The book was _______. The man sold out the whole first edition(版) at a bookstore the day it was printed, and received “thousands of requests” for more copies of the book. It also got a lot of news reports. As a result, the man is planning to come out ______ kinds of books in disappearing ink.

In some ways, the idea is pretty clever. ______, we still have some suggestions:

First, the book should start the disappearing process after the reader first opens the book.

Second, after the words disappeared, the book should find a______use. Perhaps they can be recycled, or we can use them as notebooks. It would be a more friendly way to do this.

Andrew Matthews, an Australian writer, tells us that making your dreams real is life’s biggest challenge. You may think you are not very good at some school s    45     or that to become a writer is difficult for you. In fact, everyone can r    46     his dream. First, remember what your dream is and keep telling yourself what you want every day. Small dreams make a big one. Second, never give up your dream. You shouldn’t watch TV. You’d better study instead. It will help you a    47     better grades（分数）.

Life will be more beautiful for the person who dreams and who takes action!

Great inventions

Great inventions change the world. They help people live a better life. The following are the most important inventions in history.

The wheel is perhaps the greatest invention in history. After its invention, travelling became faster and more comfortable. A few thousand years ago, people started to use wheels on carriages（马车）. In the early 19^th century, the first trains began to carry passengers. At the start of the 20^th century, cars became popular. Without the wheel, we would not have these inventions.

Alexander Graham Bell invented one of the first practical（实用的） telephones in 1876. Since then, people have been able to speak to each other over long distances. Today millions of people across the world own mobile phones. They allow people to keep in touch with each other anytime, anywhere.

Thomas Edison developed the first practical light bulb in1879. Before the invention of the light bulb, people had to use oil lamps, gas lamps or candles to see at night. With light bulbs, people can do as many things in the evenings as they can in the daytime. Can you imagine living without them?
