Do you know anyone born in the Year of the Tiger? What’s their     1     like? Are they brave, strong and tenacious（顽强的）? If so, then they are a     2     “tiger”.

In Chinese culture, tigers are considered the king of all animals. They     3     power, energy and protection. Tigers are regarded as     4     animals, so that’s why in China you can see images of tigers on the walls of temples and houses to ward off（阻挡）disasters and danger.

Tigers have an important cultural meaning not just in China but across Asia. As they     5     live in Asia, for many people in the West, they have become a cultural symbol of     6     countries. For example, four fast-developing places in the East Singapore, South Korea. China’s Hong Kong and Taiwan, were called “The Four Asian Tigers”. Instead of tigers, lions are considered as the king of all animals in the West. Brave soldiers     7     the name “the lions”.

Tigers are also one of my favorite animals. If you ask my mom, she’ll tell you that my favorite toy while growing up was my toy tiger, which I still treasure to this day. As a young animal     8    , I felt so sad that they were     9     and I wanted to help protect them.

Just like tigers serve as a symbol of protection in Chinese culture, we can only hope that in the Year of the Tiger more people can learn about tigers and help protect them from     10     harm.

How can we show Chinese literature (文学) in a new way? Ye Luying, one of the youngest     1     sets a good example. She turns Cao Zhi’s The Goddess of the Luo (《洛 神赋》) into pictures and helps more people understand the story     2    . In order to draw those pictures, Ms. Ye read and looked up a lot of information     3     is about history. The pictures have helped her win lots of prizes.

Cao Zhi, the     4     son of Cao Cao, was a famous poet. In his The Goddess of the Luo, Cao Zhi told a sad love story that happened to him. One day, Cao Zhi passed by Luo River on     5     way home. He noticed a beautiful lady by the rock     6     he was enjoying the view (风景). The lady was so pretty that Cao Zhi fell in love     7     her.

And he wanted     8     her. However, the lady was the goddess of Luo River. She couldn’t marry a human being. Finally, the goddess left, leaving Cao Zhi alone. Cao Zhi missed the goddess so much that he wrote down the story to remember her.

Now many people from different countries become     9     in the Chinese literature than before. It is believed that more and more Chinese literature     10     by western people in the future. In that case, they can know more about our country.
