If you plan to take your pet on a trip, prepare ahead of time. At least two weeks before you leave, take your pet to a vet. See if he or she is tit for travel and ask if he or she should have any medicine before leaving. The vet may suggest certain pills for sickness or for calming the pet.
Some states or foreign countries have health laws that say animals must have certain injections(注射)before they can be allowed to enter. Your vet may have this information. You can also get help on the United States and Canadian laws from a book published by the Department of Agriculture which some libraries have. For information on foreign countries, check with their consulates (领事馆).You can also ask the airlines on which you are travelling.
Find out if the places where you plan to stay allow pets because many do not.
If you are going by plane or train, ask if pets are allowed. If they are,ask where they will be kept and who will care for them. The big bus lines in this country do not allow pets.
Choose your pet’s box carefully. Plastic boxes are better than cardboard or wooden ones because they can' be chewed(嚼碎).
If going by plane or train during warm weather, try to go in the cooler early morning or evening hours. Also try to avoid (避免)very cold winter weather because pets often suffer from cold. 文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。每个人的学习方式各不相同,通过实例证明,研究适合你的方式就是最好的学习方式。

【推荐1】You may study differently from your friends, but your study habits are not wrong!

Kelly and Maria are best friends with a lot in common. They love doing things together, such as going to the movies and concerts, shopping, or just sitting at a small cafe. Since they take a lot of the same school subjects, they would love to study together, but they find this impossible. Their working styles are so completely different that they can’t be in the same room while they are studying!

Kelly would like to study in a clean, open space, while Maria works best with books, papers and other things around her. Kelly prefers to study in a totally silent room, but Maria loves to play music or even have the TV on. Kelly can sit for hours without moving, and often gets all her homework done in one sitting. Maria, however, is always getting up, and says that she thinks best when she’s on the move.

You might be asking yourself: which way of studying gets better results? Many people believe that a silent, tidy setting(环境) is the way to go, ________ . Some research has even shown that outside noise and untidiness help some people focus their attention, because it makes them form a “wall” in their mind around what they are doing and improves their focus.

So, if you’re a student who chooses to study while sitting at a table in a busy shopping center, don’t worry about it. If you work in total silence, that’s OK, too. Judging from Kelly’s and Maria’s study habits, the best way to study is the way that works for you. In their very different ways, both of them do well in school, and both finish their work within the required time as well.

3. Which of the following is the best to fill in the blank in Paragraph 4?

C.but that doesn’t seem necessarily trueD.but nobody does research on this question
4. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Students who like to study in silence will be more successful.
B.Both study habits can help students make progress in their studies.
C.Only a small number of students can study well in a noisy situation.
D.Friends with different study habits can do better by studying together.
5. What is the best title for the text?
A.Are you studying in the “right” way?
B.How can you improve your study habits?

【推荐3】

There are two paths (路) in life: Should and Must. We arrive at these crossroads again and again. And each time, we have to choose.

Should is how others want us to show up in the world—what we should or shouldn’t do. When we choose Should, we’re choosing to live our life for someone or something other than ourselves. The journey to Should can be smooth, and the risk is small.

Must is who we are, what we believe, and what we do when we are alone with our truest self. Must is why Van Gogh painted his whole life without ever receiving public recognition (认可). Must is why Reyna Marder Gentin started to write for the first time after 23 years of being a lawyer.

Choosing Must sounds fantastic, right? To choose Must is to say yes to hard work and endless effort, to say yes to a journey without a road map or tour guides.

How can we actually choose Must?

Ask yourself, “What is my Must?” If you don’t know the answer, write down your biggest, most impossible dreams! Don’t worry! It’s just the first step.

Now, think about what’s actually in your way. Is it your parents? Maybe they’re just worried that you haven’t thought it through. Try to make a practical plan for what you want to do. Your parents may find it a good one. Is it money? Well, the best way to make money is to do what you love because it’s very likely that you will pay great attention to it. Choosing Must doesn’t mean we need to give up everything we already have. It’s about changing one small thing at a time.

If you believe that you have something special inside of you, it’s about time you give Must a try—today.

1. What happens if we choose the path of “Should”?
A.We don’t need to take great risks.B.We have to give up what we have.
C.We’ll have a clear picture of ourselves.D.We have to live our life for ourselves.
2. How does the writer develop his idea in Paragraph 3?
A.By listing numbers.B.By asking questions.
C.By giving examples.D.By comparing.
3. According to the writer, which of the following is suitable for the journey to Must?
A.Smooth and exciting.B.Hard and challenging.
C.Impossible and foolish.D.Easy and educational.
4. If we choose the path of “Must”, which of the following is NOT true?
A.We’d better make sure what our Musts are.B.We’d better make a practical plan.
C.We’d better make money for our Musts.D.We’d better change a lot at a time.
5. Why do you think the writer wrote this passage?
A.To take others’ advice.B.To encourage us to be our truest self.
C.To tell us something about his choice.D.To tell us to do what others want us to do.
